interesting, they tend to get a pretty bad rap in industrial circles from what i've seen and it'd be cool if they came out with a kickass album I never heard them (or heard of them) before I got the promo. I checked out the older stuff to kind of become more familiar with their sound and direction and the upcoming is definitely the best.
What do they get a bad rap about? Do you have links or can you just tell me?

i'm not all that sure to be honest, they seem to be lumped in (unfairly, I might add) with Mindless Self Indulgence in terms of bottom of the barrel industrial. i hardly know anything about them, but what I have heard just seemed a little underwhelming. Might just be elitism directed at an emerging cult band, idk.

I've only heard a few Mindless Self Indulgence songs, but Psyclon Nine is nothing like them. It's harsh electro with a minor black metal influence.

I think comparing anything to Mindless Self Indulgence is a form of insult to some people.

Yeah, this is pretty good. I agree with your sentiments that the EBM influenced tracks are a lot more interesting then the rock structured side of it, but even if the lyrics are cheesy some of these choruses are downright infectious. I like the guys voice, I think I can catch a whiff of auto-tune or some vocal effect similar to it here and there though which i'm unsure about. The production is a tad more lo-fi with guitars then I was hoping for, but its not enough to kill it.
I could definitely give this another spin, and I probably will.

I still like their debut a little more (it was harsh electro), but this is good for a different side of electronic music. Yeah, I caught the occasional "helping hand" in the vocals too, but with this kind of music it's hard to tell if it was a needed addition or if it was just used to provide a little variation. I don't know if I would like this with a bigger production - it may have killed the electronic side of things.

Aye, vocal processing is not necessarily a bad thing if its just used for effect as i'm pretty sure it is here. You are probably right, I just prefer a sharper sonic edge to modern EBM and electronic music in general.

I come back to this now after listening to their older material, and damn this is just disappointing.

Almost forgot about this album
A Matter Of Time (Stadium Mix) is soooooooo good, almost as good as the original.

How can you like this but hate the latest Essence of Mind album?
|
| |
Are you talking about Try And Fail? Damn I don't even remember listening to it. Because if so, it's gonna be pun-o-rama '11 up in here if you know what I mean.

Informatik is a futurepop titan, imo. While Essence has always been mediocre. NUFF SAID.

I don't know. I've only heard the one Essence of Mind album and it is really good. They kind of remind me of Kill Hannah with balls.
Also, Informatik wasn't always futurepop. Wouldn't that make them sellouts or something ;)

Even back in the old days when they were a little harsher, they sounded kickass. Although I definitely prefer today's sound.
Haha, they kind of do sound like Kill Hannah a little bit. You should check out Apoptygma Berzerk man, they also combine rock with industrial in a similar way (at least with their newer material).

I like Informatik's debut and the last two albums. I found out about them on some cheap industrial compilation years ago.
It's okay that Essence of Mind sound like Kill Hannah because they're a good band. I'll look into Apoptygma Berzerk. I know I've heard them before, but I don't know which album.

Hmm, I would say You and Me Against the World for damn sure. That's the album where Apop blended the two styles really really well. The album's also got that slick production quality that you seem to enjoy.

A Matter Of Time (Stadium Mix) is one of my favourite songs of all time now.

The album is ok but I love the song "The End". It is perfect for a cold november day. Nice melancholic atmosphere.
