Mostly because of all the new users copying the interests of the mods and staff I'd bet

And it's so sad it has to be. If there was enough attention for every type of music, Sputnik could be just about the perfect music discussion site.

truth in both of the posts above, I'd just add the fact that a lot of people who have unique taste have left this site in near-past. So instead of them, now we have a lot of new users who are just copying the taste of other well liked members and the elitists.

Maybe times will change, and new users will join who don't copy others. I've always tried out what the so-called elitists loved, but if I don't like it, I don't like it. People should just be able to say what they think or like without getting immediately flamed.

imo the situation is near-impossible to change. Let's face it, sputnik is (has become) just too elite.

That's not always a bad thing; it makes for some great musical discoveries.

However, I have to agree. It's nice to see users formulating opinions of their own, step one to diversity. Might check this out.

I agree. This and Machine Head are their two best studio albums though, but I have a preference for this one.

I've only ever heard Machine Head all the way through.

Listen to this then. Or to Made in Japan, which owns all of their studio work.

Why does nobody vote on reviews like this?

Yeah, Deep Purple gets little to no recognition on Sputnik.

One of the first albums I bought - because I liked the cover - and it totally turned me on to rock music. This is a hard rock masterpiece and masterclass. I am old enough to have bought it on vinyl. I taped it - that's what we did in those days - but taped side two first so Child in time ends the album. Always thought it was having side 1 as well side 1 was a abd idea. Flight of the Rat is a better opener than Bloodsucker, which is not to say that it is not a good song. Also, disagree about end comment about Machinehead - very overated album; Fireball much better!
