If you look at the ratings and soundoffs, I think your opinion will end up being the majority here in Sputnik. Even if it's not, who cares? Let me know what you think.

I'm just saying that because if I go into a lukewarm review of an album and say how much I disagree it usually turns into an argument, which is what I don't want.

Either way I really like this album, it's got a different atmosphere than their last three. I really don't understand why people hate this band for doing the same thing when that same thing is making thousands of people extremely happy. I could name a million metal bands which people adore that have done the same thing their entire career, so why bitch here and now about it?

The atmosphere on this album feels more epic and less morose, but not by much. I don't personally hate this band for doing the same thing - "3" equals "good". The problem with them doing the exact same thing for so long is that it makes the album feel old long before it should simply because it's the same thing I've heard for three other albums. Also, it might be worse for them because the emphasis on songs dominated by melodic leads is that it makes the songs sound even more similar than they really are.

I know what you're saying but these riffs are so good that, to me at least, the album doesn't get boring.

Here's hoping they bring in even more prog elements next time to please those who desire change, then.

I hope they do something different. I just don't need a fifth album of the same music. They obviously have the talent to move away from their formula if they want to.

Their songwriting skills definitely allow for them to shift genres, even just a bit. I guess it will just take a while to find a place where there is a little bit for everyone to really dig.

Well, it's not a band's job to make something for everyone so if they like what they're doing than there's no reason to change it but I definitely get to have an opinion on it ;)

Alot of bands can get away with not changing a thing and be consistently awesome. Like Stockholm death metal. Insomnium cant really pull it off though. But really, the only trace of death metal in Insomnium is the vocals. Otherwise, they go overboard in sickenly sweet melodies and purple sythesizer flourishes. Who wants an abundance of melody in their death metal? I certaintly dont. 1st krieg all the way. Purple metal can F.O.A.D

Wow, the guys managed to go from Since The Day It All Came Down to this? Still haven't listened to this, don't feel hard-pressed to do it, but still hard for me to imagine guys with this amount of talent to release something as what your review and other users say this is.

STDIACD is probably my fav death metal album, even over BWP by Opeth... it's really a shame.

Opeth aren't death metal, and the only death metal about Insomnium are the vocals.

But I agree, STDIACD was pretty good, much better than this

I'm not going to discuss genres here because normally it leads nowhere except pointless debate, and because it doesn't matter. The point is the same, sad to see such a great band start to go downhill like this review and users imply.

Might check a song out just to see, they should have one on myspace.

yeah Fire is kinda right, but since you keep reviewing these barely above average albums I figured you might as well do that one next.

c'mon you know you want to =)

Ha ha, I didn't realize it but my last six listed reviews have all been on average to barely above average albums (although Czar is actually good). It wasn't intentional. I have a 4.5 post rock review coming, and about 4 industrial reviews (but another average band review before any of those).

Almost no one agreed with that Skyforger reviewer. That album hasn't got any better with time.

I still enjoy it, not as much as I used to but its still a fun listen

I've been meaning to check out Insomnium, which album would you recommend?

I'm still a big fan of Insomnium's debut, In the Halls of Awaiting. Although most would probably say Above the Weeping World (although the next comment will totally disagree and pick the one album I didn't mention).
