Can anyone in the know give me a very quick lowdown on their discography?... I'm a little overwhelmed. I've heard one track off Troublegum but it sounded like pop-punk 'Screamager'... was ok I guess (couldn't find the entire album on YouTube), then I heard a few tracks from this & it was so different (& better).

@Demon
Lame band, agreed. Listen to Nurse, it's the only album that doesn't sound like commercial rock.

Or better yet, when they were a noise rock band.

Commercial rock is one of the best genres when it’s done well though my learned friends

Nurse has a couple of tunes but come on Troublegum is really well written and played
I doubt I’d find an honest to god head banging old school enjoyable rock album rated above a 3 from Ghandi ;P

I'm not a big fan of the manics, they started to sound like the manics to me.

I gave Sad Wings of Destiny a 3.5. I doubt you can find a metal band that makes old rockers bang their heads more than Priest.

Therapy? always sounded like they could throw a punch
Manics sounded the opposite
Liked both bands in 94 and I sort of see the comparison but their fundamental appeal for me is totally different.
The appeal of Priest involves stud leather and high notes - sort of like Maiden except they preferred denim and patches. Not really for me.

their newer stuff is very much noise rock too. they have very few albums that I would consider mainstream rock

wtf? the appeal isn't that shit, its the sick instrumentation. 70s priest fucking rips

That makes sense given that they started at completely different points.

I’m sure I could put together ten Priest tunes worth my time on a mixtape and the 70s stuff (esp Sad Wings) was the best but I’m not that into them

K this convo got me to revisit priest. It ain't a 3.5. Victim of Changes is still one of the greatest "greatest metal songs" ever though.
And yeah, Priest are one of those bands made better by compiling the highlights. Just like The Police.
