It was still good. Where are you from, Alligator? Because in the UK, That's What I'm Not basically changed the face of popular music and culture forever. Nobody thought anywhere close to as highly of Your Favourite Nightmare, and, with good reason imo.

I'm from Australia and I remember seeing the video for 'dancefloor' and thinking wow! this band is amazing, they sound like a more modern version of 70's bands like the Jam.

They have a loyal following here but nowhere near the success they have in UK. Perhaps thats why I love the 2nd album because they weren't really hyped or anything, they were just a band I discovered on my own one saturday morning. they're good live too.

Yeah perhaps. There was pretty much nothing they could have done to emulate the success of the debut here; when it came out it was EVERYWHERE, and Brianstorm just got average radioplay. Teddy Picker was popular, too, but that was basically it.

The first album didn't do much here. I guess because it wasn't american hip hop with huge beats and balck dudes rapping...

but yeah the alternative stations loved it.

Oh man, in amongst all the other albums being released over the remainder of the year, I completely forgot about the new one from the Arctic Monkeys. I hope they can at least equal FWN.

I definitely thought their debut was superior to FWN, but I did read some reviews that thought they were equal like Croc thought.

Anyways, getting back to the original point about 2nd albums, there will always be exceptions like Oasis, but for the most part I feel it holds true. I've always put it down to the fact that British bands prefer to release 1-3 EPs before they record a full-length & that full-length will usually contain a few EP songs. U.S & Oz bands will be more likely to release 1 EP at most before their full-length.

Of course, that reasoning does not justify a totally crap 2nd album like The Feeling have released here.

I'm not even from the UK and I know you're calling bullshit.

Not at all, there might be a slight element of hyperbole but it brought a gritty side to mainstream radio that hadn't been present for years, made thousands of bands (some good, some terrible) realise music didn't need to be pristine or epic to be popular, and shook the role of the 'net up in producing music to no end. My view is probably somewhat skewed since I am from Sheffield but there's a reason my musically-impaired family in Sidcup have heard of the band and it's got a lot to do with the influence they had on the popular music scene.

NME jizz =/= changing culture forever.

Just...just give up.

Arctic Monkeys proved you could get famous from Myspace/the internet and showed you could get strong chart positions from download sales. They didn't change anything themselves, just represented the change in music culture towards the internet/downloads.

On a side note I think FWN is a far superior album, its just way more (cliche) mature and oozes atmosphere. I think the first is good but a tad overhyped.

Oh man, I'm not even going to get into this "changing the face of popular music" debate. It all depends on definitions & the like. One person could judge hundreds of bands doing that, while another could suggest there are no more than 10. All I know is The Feeling haven't done so under any definition.

Plus, and this is a different (related) argument, just because someone changes the face of popular music, I don't think it automatically makes them classic/excellent.

And DavID, will you stop cyber bullying Alligator. It made the front page of the Melbourne newspapers today you know. Some chick (I think her name was Crocina) committed suicide after being bullied on the net.

I doubt Alligator will commit suicide though. David always says nasty and cheeky things

Yeah, I didn't make that up at all (excluding the name obviously). It was on the front page of the Herald-Sun.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the police are after Eddie VanHalen, but I think they may have got the name slightly incorrect.
