There's a kid in my school who listens to Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine. Nevermore is the only real metal band he likes, and I being an elitist have grown also to feel disdainful towards this band as well, although I have never listened to them!

There is a lot to be admired on this album, especially because Dane and Loomis are so amazing with what they had done before, but this time excelled even their highest standards set by 'Dead heart...'
Not to say that the rest of the band is to be ignored however. I feel as if this album was deliberately made to make fans of extreme progressive metal nod their heads in appreciation, so that they knew this album would be a classic. Let's face it, the title track is worth this album's money alone.

To this day I have never understood the complaints about Warrel Dane's vocals. Makes me wonder how many of the complaints are coming from people who simply don't like the classical style vocals (Geoff Tate, Bruce Dickinson etc.) and think that anything that's "heavy" should have black, death or scremo vocals all over it. Nevermore essentially became the bridge between older Metallica and Iron Maiden with a modern production, and they pretty much had no peers in their particular style.

This grew off me by a whole rating point over the years but it's still great. The second half of the title track is still a borderline sexual climax
