Great album. "Here Today" is such a forgotten classic.

"I wwant to hear some songs from Smile. I was curious, was that album recorded while Brian was still a little nutty?"

"Smile" was supposed to be the greatest album ever made. It was famous and crowned that before Brian Wilson even finished it. But something went horribly wrong. The sessions to the precious album - a teenage sympthothy to God that would change - pop music forever - were distroyed.

Love hated it, and EMI couldn't stand this "new" type of songs that Brian was recording. There were rumours that Brian Wilson burned the sessions. That's not true, since the sessions were recovered, and "Smile" was finally released in the new century. You can check it out - people say it's still got that creepy feeling when you listen to it.

It's the most famous never to be released album ever made, and perhaps - save for the story of Pepper - the greatest myth in record history ever told.

Basically, this is nice introduction to review. So much can be said about "Pet Sounds" and everything I read here was well known facts or "I can't explain it, you've got to hear it" thing.

I know Pet Sounds is a big sacred cow, but I don't like the album. Love the Beach Boys' earlier singles though. When I go for a Beach Boys track, I expect fun, catchy surf rock. Not overproduced bummers. They're in my "surf rock" folder for a reason. "Good Vibrations" is a winner, but sadly it's not on the album.

I liked it, but it's not a classic for me atm. It did make me appreciate Mr. Bungle's California more tho.

I dunno about that. The 60's has so many amazing albums. A Love Supreme, Sgt Peppers, Abbey Road, Revolver, Black Saint, Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde, Some Sam Cooke records.

Still my favorite since I don't like those Beatles/Dylan records all that much and haven't heard the rest.

Great album with such great harmony. I remember when I first heard them singing Barbara Ann and thinking what great harmony.

God only Knows is wonderful and the standout track. This Message Edited On 08.23.08
