Something better than Opeth actually.
Agreed.
I actually prefer Australasia to this but it is still a truly amazing album. Excellent review.

I just bought this today. I haven't listened to it yet. I'll check in later.

Ok, this album is fucking amazing. I love their integration of down-tuned, crunchy guitars with vaguely indie music. I'm really digging the discordant, Sonic Youth vibe I'm getting, too.

You know what would be cool? Pelican with a talk box...

I like this Cd, not quite as much as some of you but I think they do mix in the atmospherics and ambient feelings into their music well. A couple songs didn't really hold my attention. This Message Edited On 04.11.06

I bought this cd the other day, and even after one listen I was amazed. Just fantastic, but this just repeats what other posters have said.
I'll have to check out the other bands other people have mentioned who are similar.

Pelican is awesome. I saw them live but it was at an outdoor festival, which probably isn't as great as it would be to see them in a small club.

Yeah, because seeing them in a small club is fucking great. I've seen them three times now, and each time was better than the last.

This has a serious Hot Water Music vibe...big time. Not the slower parts, but once it gets going, the layering sounds just like HWM.

Short review, but still good. I think that the production (sound) could be better than it is.

I saw these guys live at a real small venue, and a lot of the songs they played from this album really clicked in that setting, so I appreciate this album even more now. My favorite tracks are "last Day of Winter" and "March Into the Sea".
