Gonna keep it at a 4, just has too many shortcomings for me to give a sensible higher rating, even though I really fucking love a handful of tracks.

This is a step down from Themata, which is disappointing since I had high hopes for this. "Deadman" is amazing and there are a few other quite good songs, but too much of it fails to hold my interest to warrant a 4 or higher.

I can't believe people actually see this as a step down. I find this album to be so much of an improvement over themata

Thanks Jim.

It's a cool as word, alright!

This is actually probs more up your alley than Themata methinks.

And yeah disagree with the people saying its a step down from Themata, there's so much more diversity on this album, the songwriting is better, the instruments are more technical. I mean, dont get me wrong Themata rules and has some amazing songs, but as a whole album this is better.

Good album. Some songs are fairly technical time signature wise and heavyish and some have a much more acoustic, simplistic feeling.

I was expecting a more kinda hard-rock feeling like Themata, but i'm happily satisfied with the album.

BTW, to people who are getting bored, listen to it a bit more to let it grow on you. I didn't like it the first listen either. I thought I was going to give it a 2.5 or so, but as progressive bands like to do, it grows on you.

At this point in time I prefer Themata, but as people have said this is a grower I'll keep listening.

good review

I actually liked it less the second time I listened to it and my opinion hasn't changed on any subsequent listens. Making the songs longer and more complex is nice and all, but I think their strength lies in more accessible music. Simple Boy, Umbra and Illumine alone are almost 20 minutes of average music.

I really want to get the actual CD so I can read the damn lyrics. Lyrics + Kenny's voice is phenominal (sp?). None of it is lyrical genius, it just happens to work perfectly with soaring emotion.

But yeah, atm I hold Themata over this, however, it IS a little hard to compare them. I'm still pissed at not being able to hear the full version of Change.
