potsos, I think what willfellmarsy was saying is that you are describing the album as an
historical entity, referring to its place in culture several years after hearing it. It doesn't
need to be a tbt to be topical, it's more the use of past-tense that gives the review that sort of
reading. However, it is also very well written so it doesn't really matter.
I understand what you're saying and I agree. I was just a little confused because he initially
said it read like a reaction to a first listen, which seems the polar opposite of reading as a
historical reference! :D
I've read both types of reviews and definitely prefer a traditional (not historical) one, but is
there a "preferred" method here? For instance, are historical reviews considered inferior? Just
wondering for future reviews I may write. Thanks for all the input.

Arcarsenal is an amazing song, can't stop playing it.
Still need to listen more to the rest of the album. But usually a good sign, if an album takes a while to sink in.
Haven't decided if the lyrics are rubbish or brilliant yet, but love the energy.

Nice review, obviously a bit fanboyish but the entire site is for this album so it doesn't really matter. Love the musicianship of this album but I wish the lyrics made sense, I can't hail it as a masterpiece if I can't understand it. Possibly that's the reason I find Invalid Litter Dept to be the worst song on this album because them trying to be meaningful with those kind of lyrics just throws me off.
I have the Japanese version and the two bonus tracks are well worth having (though I suspect everyone here may have them as B-sides or something).

I understand, both of you. Nova, here's the deal with the lyrics for me. I don't try to translate the lyrics of an entire song of theirs into a coherent story. I think that's a little silly and doing so gives a little too much credit to Cedric. But I find his words (specifically on this album) very colorful and evocative. It's entertaining and visceral, but it's just painting pictures, not telling an entire story. I'm not saying this is how he intended it or anything, just how his words affect me. I don't think "Position the stitches like miles or torpedoes" and "permission was hinted, lungs that holler in a sleeper hold" is some brilliant, encrypted coherent storyline, it's just an explosion of lyrics that paint strange, interesting pictures -- matching the music.
While I resent being called a fanboy, it's inevitable I suppose. I don't think I went to the moon with hyperbole on this review. The boldest claim I made is that this is one of the defining rock albums of the last 9 years and if that's reaching, I'm ok with that.
For the record, my biggest mistake was probably reviewing too many of my very favorite albums. In reality, I would consider less than maybe ten albums as a 5/5, but this is one of them. I realize some people consider almost nothing worthy of this rating and some many more, but everyone ranks differently, I suppose.
Anyway, thanks a ton for the feedback.

I really like "Dripping with drool from the nerves of this sentence" a lot. same with "Unknown...Origin.....Is this the comfort of being afraid" Come to think of it I love all the lyrics. Come to think of it I love all the music. Fuck it, I love the album.

Yeah I think the lyrics are pretty good in this. you can't say that Cedric didn't put any thought in them. There's a lot of paradox like lungs in a sleeper hold and the comfort of a afraid. They make you think. Like comparing stitches to torpedoes.
