What the really great power pop bands understood was their limitations. So you're not the greatest musical talent, it doesnt matter, you can still write great sing-a-long melodies with the three of four chords you do know. You don't have ambitions above your level, attempting desperately for some kind of masterpiece because this album is the inevitable product of a band who have lost their grounding and seem to be lost actually believing their own hype. Over egged and over produced at every stage, so obviously contrived to be a spectacular soaring epic yet falling heavily into the ordinary and sadly very embarassing for what were once a very down to earth band.

This is so fucked up. Green Day put out a very well record, this is really a decent CD. I don't understand this site, there are some much people on here who simply never loved Green Day and than they say they don't gonna listen it. THAN SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN SOMETHING ELSE. For the people who like Green Day and those who are smart and think: 'if they didn't put out American Idiot, they would't be able to put this kind of cd out', they will love it, this is green day at they maximum on this age, this time.

Billy Joe should go back to writing songs about subjects he has more than a basic understanding of. Like drug use and masturbating.

I haven't heard it as a whole, I will be buying it Friday. I'll rate it after I do and then you'll know.

So which rating is your opinion...your review rating or your soundoff rating?

It sits around a 2.3 for me. I tried to make the review more objective (see: less forgiving) than I am.

So, in other words, both!

"21st Century Breakdown sounds less like a Green Day record and more like a parody, except no one is laughing."- except them all the way to the bank when every song makes it on the radio.

good review, haven't heard it but it seems spot on of what they're doing these days.

I used to love American Idiot m8 and that album actually has some good songs (Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams anyone?) but sorry i have to say if anyone thinks this is 'the pinnacle of their career' then they are either a Green Day fanatic or a fucking idiot.

Serious, how many people have actually heard the song '21 guns' of this record? I believe when I read these commens nobody even get to the end of the record. Is there now really nobody that thinks that this is a decent effort from Green Day? I don't get it, you can't want them to write another dookie. They grown up. Fuck it.

This review says all what I want to say. Maybe if some people read it and then actually listen to the record with the thought of 'i'm gonna give it a chance' and not with 'it's green day, they single sucks, this sucks too', then maybe you gonna realise that this is a very nice CD.
