This album is still awesome after many listens since January. The song that did grew on me to the point of being epic is You Were The Cancer, monumental song. Details on my view on the album are in my review. My Thursday ranks go as follow:

Full Collapse > Common Existence > War All The Time > A City By Lights Divided

I thin that, although it was sort of obvious were the band was going with this album, it still got many people off guard. Yet if the album is considered on it's own merits it is actually a great piece of work. My #2 of 2009 atm.

Julio/Cesar, I have since had a read of your review & you make some strong points as we reach the same rating. Good to hear the album is still sounding great to you and also great to see we have almost identical rankings for Thursday's albums.

Good point that the album still caught a few off guard. My theory on that is that most listeners thought they would go even more experimental with their sound. Or not so much more experimental, as less aggressive. I think they have blended everything well and I admit that the (seemingly obvious) direction they have headed in is a little bit of a restropective comment on my behalf. That is, it is easy for me to say now that they have done that.

Thanks Marko. And yes, I get the reference to Lucas (not the Liverpool player). He was almost the captain of the first team (apart from the hosts) to qualify for the World Cup you know. Oh well, next game should do it. We look forward to defeating the Croats this time around, whether or not your players get 3 yellow cards or not! Haha.

Thanks metalstyles. Not into post-hardcore?

I had a listen to a few Thursday songs the other day, but I wasn't too taken by them. Your review's made me want to have another listen, so I'm downloading the album right now. I'll give it a chance to grow on me rather than dismiss it after 2 or listens as well.
You just don't let up in the quality of your reviews, do you? I'm gonna find a flaw in them one day... one day soon...

Now the pressure is on me Spamue1... I hope you are not too disappointed. Just remember that if the mid-section of this album drags a little too much for your liking, just listen to the first 3 & last 2 tracks. As for my reviews, thanks mate. I only have 3 more to go before you have to do without me for the best part of 2 months. Could be time for you to start churning them out!

YouAreMySilence, it's weird that I still think '...Mountain' is my favorite song from this album (let alone Thursday's entire back catalog) and yet I have no issue with that opinion of yours. 'Cancer' is great and I can only see it growing on me even further. Although I still think 'Cross Out The Eyes' is their very best.

Fair enough roofi. A 3.5 rating is not far from where I have it I guess. Wow, that's a fair flock of hair in your avatar. Who is that dude?

It bored me, to be honest. It's just a sound record...one that you can't help but feel indifferent about, an "It's okay I guess" kind of record.

This has been getting such good reviews I probably need to get it. I'm probably gonna be a dick like you say and listen once and discard it though. Hopefully not haha.

To think that at one stage people here thought we had exactly the same musical tastes DavID. Seems funny now since we haven't agreed on an album for so long. Your description of this album is exactly what I feel about 'War All The Time', which I believe is their most ordinary effort (excluding their debut).

So no-one knows the significance of the cover photo?

War All the Time, for what it is and what it sets out to be, is perfect. This? I just feel that Thursday don't have anything to prove anymore.

Adam, if you definitely go into listening to this album with high expectations, you will probably be let down. From memory, my expectations were neutral and on first listen, I was still neutral about it in all honesty. But yeah, many songs need to be given the time to grow. At the very least, you will find 2-3 great songs on here though.

While I wouldn't use the word "perfect" DavID, I thought 'War All The Time' was a bridging album and it does do a solid job of doing that... But nothing more... And it leads to a lot of compromises, as most bridging albums do.

As for Thursday not having anything to prove now, I disagree with that. Their last album (while I liked most of it) lost quite a few of their fans and I think they almost looked to summarize all of their past efforts into 1 here. And thinking on that level, they have done a great job.

Not really. It makes the band redundant.
