It does change my perspective slightly to know that the singer hates my two favorite albums from this band. Although, when he said this album sounded like band members taking turns doing what they really wanted rather than working together I don't really get that. This album always sounded cohesive and deliberate to me. If the band members are all divergent, than that chimeric element created something stunning (or they must have a lot more in common than he thinks).

I think more what he meant is there wasn't as much risk taking with the sound. Sort of like he felt they were kind of phoning it in at this point.

Which is crazy considering how good the end product is.

not so much that.. more like he he felt they set a sort of template they were following after Panopticon. He wanted to move towards what he did immediately after with SUMAC and OMG.

That's crazy. All their albums brought something new and great to the table

The thing with SUMAC is that I don't think their songs flow particularly well. At times they just seem a collection of random bits and bobs thrown in the mixer.

Sumac distinctly is missing the contrast Isis has. They crush to deeper lows, but they rarely deliver the same shining catharisis that you find in almost every Isis track. Like I said earlier, they’re great, but they lack the dimension that makes this band legendary in my book.

I have both Sumac albums and I don't like them as much as any Isis album. I love that Turner will try anything though so I will keep supporting his weirdness.

Sumac fucking rules. They're probably just as good or better than Isis for me. I love the stripped back heavy as all fuck sound.

Same. The guitar work is more technical as well

Tbh I think people should stop hoping for new Aaron Turner projects to sound like Isis, there’s a reason the band broke up. His new stuff like Sumac is not the same and should be accepted for what it is
