I prefer Angela by far.

Her attitude and everything pisses me off, cannot deny she is a great front woman though, fantastic live band.
Johans vocals are just a weak kinda shout.

Long, yet excellent review.

Pretty good review but in the beginning you say Arsis is part Swedish melo-death scene... They are from Virginia. Close enough I guess.

Listened to this again. The first three are definitely the best and while some people have an issue with Johann's vocal performance (I personally don't), this was the band's most musically interesting period.

Sinister Mephisto ride the sky...
From the beginning to the end a timeless masterpiece. Very dark and atmospheric, with compilation of 9 most amazing things AE has ever released. It is almost like a story. Begins with Beast of Man, ends with Bridge of Destiny´s almost neoclassical ending solo. Solos: amazing. Riffs: badass. Structure: kickass. Johan´s voice: fits perfectly into the concept. If you take every single song and play it all alone, it is still good, but better to play the whole album, cause songs almost sound like they are connected together...

i think Johann is a vastly better vocalist than Angela and has way more power and force. the rerecordings of Beast of Man basically cement that since they decided to double track a bunch of Angela's parts to give them more power and they're still really limp sounding in comparison

wow
this is an impressive step up from their debut and arguably contains more interesting and varied (although less catchy) songwriting than burning bridges
need to revisit bridges and wages but this might be the best arch enemy album to me

Is it just me or does the solo from Bridge of Destiny sound like it could be from a Ghibli score?

Burning Bridges is the best Johan album by far, but this is pretty close too. Beast of Man in particular is a rad opener
