Unless you put on a big purple velvet hat with a large yellow feather.

LegalDuck, what were you referring to initially when you said this looks good?

the album, actually.
sounds like nice catchy, short songs.
perfect departure from listening to Dido and Aeneas for a week straight.

I thought you might have been.

Funnily enough "nice catchy short songs" is not the best way to describe this LP. Firstly, the songs average around 3:50 - 4:00 in length. This is a good thing because her debut album was overlong. Yeah, the songs are catchy, but not so much in an overly poppy Lady Gaga/Britney way. It's more the mix of genres that Estelle performs and her likeable manner that makes her stand out. Think Destiny's Child I guess, but English and including more rapping. But yeah, she will seem like a huge ball of energy when compared to Dido! Who wouldn't?

That's a decent length, still pales in comparison to Dido, god almighty...haha. Yeah, this does look interesting. Rapping with English accents is also quite fun. Sounds like it's a "good" kind of catchy then huh? By my terms at least.
Thanks for the info, I'll try and check it out sometime.

Oh yeah, good review by the way, forgot to tell you.

It is a good kind of catchy in my opinion... There's definitely something behind the songs, put it that way. And thanks.

I wonder if Estelle has a hot sister?

Hmmm, well I just looked Estelle herself up on Google, she's not that easy on the eyes. But who knows? An investigation should be conducted

Sorry to change the subject (not that i mind that its off my sister!) but Davey what Anberlin would you suggest I get? I noticed that you seem to rate them highly when checking out the reviews.

Haha. Nah, she looks more the stylish rich type rather than the hot babe you're looking for LegalDuck. Funnily enough, her lyrics suggest anything but rich and/or stylish.

No probs James. I want to ask similar questions of reviewers usually and the comments section is the only real way. It's another reason why I feel that reviewers should fill out the 'Recommended by Reviewer' section.

Anyway, I still haven't got a grasp on your music tastes to be honest, so I just have to suggest what I feel is their best and that would almost be a tie between their last 2; 'Cities' & 'New Surrender'. Anberlin are one of those bands that should appeal to just about everyone. I still am confounded how they are not popular in the mainstream. Both of these albums contain a fair bit of variety, ranging from harder-edged pop-punk to ballads & mainstream rock. While I haven't officially rated them here on Sputnik, they'd both be a 4.5 for me. I'm certain you wanted one album only, but I really do find it difficult to split them. Maybe 'Cities' simply because it has their best song on it; '(*Fin)'. If you get 'New Surrender' first, ensure you somehow hear '(*Fin)' as well. It is breathtaking!

Their earlier stuff is pretty good too James, but I think they found their true sound with 'Cities' and then confirmed it on 'New Surrender'.

LegalDuck, please keep your stroking to yourself. ;-)
