I think the biggest issue is trying to justify the track-times for relatively straight-forward black metal.

this is finally starting to lose its hold on me.
I can't listen to this for more than 2 tracks now 
The song lengths are too much for regular black metal. If they could have shrunk 2 tracks down to 7-9 minutes, and added one or two intro tracks, it would have flowed a lot better.
However, they insist on continuing their "4 10 minute songs" pattern for every album. Not like that is a bad thing. It just doesn't work for raw black metal of this type.

However, venturing into straight up black metal was a mistake, even if it was so they could perform this live.

i dunno he just contacted labels or something. you don't really need to have much writing background to get promos, i've had one before simply because i said i would write a review for it and post it on sputnikmusic.

No Crimson, i'm just constantly perturbed. Getting back on topic though, I would love to see them play this whole album live. Has to be killer.

same, though i'm not entirely sure why the ambient sections on the older ambients wouldn't sound as good live - i can understand the vocal issues but surely it'd be a pretty epic experience
that being said i prefer this over two hunters and i generally have no idea what i'm talking about when it comes to live bands.
