I place this at 4 atm, but I expect this to grow over time. There is just so much going on, the riffs and drums rock the hell out of me. I find the vocals to be charming by now haha.

Remission didn't do much for me. It's neither groovy nor melodic enough for me to deeply enjoy it. Also, the vocals are trash (not because they are harsh), very unlike this record.

This is the only Mastodon record i truely connected to

Really, they don't have any "bad" albums. Every approach they take, they do so with maturity.

How i wish they'd continued in this vein. Everything before and after was good and there were some memorable tracks on each record, but this just works so well as an album

Kill another one of the band's family members, and we just might get another

EOS was an half-hearted attempt at CTS at points to me

Yeah I dig their later albums to some degree, but this is miles ahead of all of them true. Those later albums just sound like someone merely killed their pet fish.

The later albums are literally just this with less prog. More pure stoner metal. The songs are more coherent, But its basically radio metal sooo....

True. But at the same time i found the prior albums not more exciting than their later albums.

They are all 3-3.5ish to me, this one is a true exception for me

This is so crazy and driving, holy shit. The Last Baron is a hell of a closer. I might give this a 5 but I'm not sure. I should check their other stuff first

It's better, destroys might be an exaggeration mind. I prefer all their 3 previous albums to this one but given what's happened since, another release even approaching this sort of quality would be welcomed with open arms.

The three before this one are all great, but imo this is where they peaked. Not hating on the albums after this one, but I do miss the less structured and more prog approach to songwriting they employed on these earlier albums. Still hoping they go full-blown concept album mega-prog on their next one.

Blood Mountain is plain boring to me most of the time. But hey, opinions
