i was only a couple years old when it came out but I remember bumping it alot with my older brother in the mid 90s. always bugged out at the solo for the struggle within.

its funny because alot of actual metal and thrash band members love this album. people talk about selling out and shit but its just an easy album to like. its okay for other genres of music to be more simple and catchy but as soon as metal does it a bunch of neckbeards throw a tantrum.

Last great metallica album, not very thashy as the previous ones, but probably the best one in the grunge era. I don't see why people complain so much about this album not being thrash metal and calling Metallica sellouts because almost every other thrash band released albums with sound similar to this, struggling to survive the grunge assault, so technically, in a way all bands became sellouts at the time, but unfortunately Metallica stayed that way because they were the most successful and made a lot of money

I agree I much prefer their first four "Thrash" albums, but this one is still great.

The last great album by Metallica. Never will they release something this profound again.

If you could go back in time to these years - 1991-1993 - this was the prime time to see this band. A vast amount of quality songs for perfect setlist's, Jason on backup vocals, Hetfield's vocal prime, Lars actually putting in effort, and Kirk actually nailing his own solos.

This album isn't thrash, but it is heavy. Sad But True is one of their heaviest songs. Holier Than Thou and Wherever I May Roam are gems. Then you have the famous power ballad Nothing Else Matters.

I don't listen to radio much myself, but no matter what rock station you turn on Enter Sandman will be on the rotation. Yes it's overplayed and it's probably the only song a long with Puppets a non-Metallica fan can name... Regardless, it is one of their best tracks. It was their best opening song. It sounds much better live, or rather did because they suck now.

The lyrics are a strong point of the album. Pretty much the last time Metallica would have thoughtful lyrics.

The solos on this album are fantastic. The Unforgiven is one of the best solos Kirk has ever written. Enter Sandman showcases excellent use of the wah-wah pedal. It's too bad Kirk actually uses the wah now to drown out his mistakes because he can't play his own solos.

Lars' drumming is not a real standout here. He was great live during this era, but going from Justice to this is a bit disappointing. Then again it doesn't really detract from the album, it's just really tame compared to his previous efforts.

As most should know Metallica is not a bass band. Even during Cliff Burton's era the bass was quite low on the albums. Jason's playing however is excellent and My Friend Of Misery is a great contribution. It's a shame Metallica did not involve him in the writing process more.

The last good Metallica album and the end of an era.

The best songs on this album are the under dog songs. Delete nothing else matters and you'll have a album as good as And justice for all

That statement is just so wrong
