Ridiculously repetitive, annoyingly mixed, and poor on almost ever front. The vocalist has some shining moments, but he's drowned under the production. Which is terrible, as well. This is what modern music is coming to, alarmingly unoriginal and over the top production. This band does not deserve the fame they're getting.
Underwhelming guitar work, poor drumming, chug chug break downs, etc. You get the picture. This sounds like every other Rise band. Which is DEFINATELY a bad thing.

Bitstream, I fail to see any of the criticisms you make. We shall agree to strongly disagree there.

Very Saosin... Only these guys are cool people.

This CD rules, definitely a diamond in the rough (in terms of the shitty copycats out there).

Saw these guys two days ago with Fear before the march of flames. They sounded good live but were out of cd's at the merch table. They had a really solid sound. Nothing innovative, but what they did, they did great.

My two main issues with this album are the production, which really doesn't make the most of their sound and the screamer, who is really monotone most of the time.

Great album i just wish i lived in the usa so i could see them with emarosa and dance gavin dance i would cum all over the place (too graphic .... no :P)
Anyway back to the album good sound the singer kind of reminds me of jonny craig tbh but i like these guys better than emarosa right now.

It does not take long to work out Of Machines' sound; polished up post-hardcore with dual clean & screaming vocals that are backed by relentless drums & over-melodic guitars. It's a good sound too (best showcased on 'Becoming Closer to Closure'), except for the fact that they repeat the dose over & over. It gets annoying after a while & many tracks sound so similar that it's difficult to tell where one song ends & the next starts! That is why a couple of slower, dreamy instrumental passages & the occasional bit of electronica work a treat. Not bad for a debut, but 'As If Everything Was Held In Place' would have made for a better 6 track EP. Recommended Tracks: 7, 2 & 5.

I agree, they sound awesome and explode through your speakers. A Solid debut, on to the masterpiece where every song has its uniqueness. Because they yet have to make real memorable songs.

sounded like every song was the same when I first listened to the whole album. It takes a couple of listens to appreciate, don't give up on it after a few listens.

I would not go as far saying this is the best album of the year. While I definitely enjoy the album; the guitar work is nothing original, the screams have no diversity (it's all monotone) and the singing (love the singing) is drowned out by the instrumentation. However - these guys have potential; and they can only get better from here. (I hope!)
P.S. Referring to their Live performance.. Guitars/bass stage presence is par; screamer is fun to watch and the singer... let's just say - he gives a physically, expressive performance.
