Despite the fact that almost all these songs are covers, there are a few jems on this album. Most of it was pretty uninteresting and turned most people away from the whole album, but tracks like annihilation, imagine, passive, and fiddle and the drum are done extremely well. Imagine is one of my favorite covers of all time. A Perfect Circle's irony astounds me some times, and everyone should at least take into account this masterpiece of a cover and give it a listen.

God, it really wasn't that bad!!! I was VERY disappointed when heaing, because, I too wanted another 13th Step, and Emotive didn't even come close to Mer de Noms.
And still - It was a good album! I couldn't stand Freedom of Choice, and tat was the WORST cover of Imagine I've ever heard (I see Lennon spinning in his grave), it's not that the song is unpleasant to listen to - it's simply stripped of all its vision.
Counting Bodies is fucking awesome. Youjustneed to open your ears to harder more dissonant stuff. Go buy a Ministry album! & the Levee? Fuking beautiful. THE most unique cover I've herd of that song.
I too wanted anther masterpiece. We didn't get it, ut hey, we also didn't get a bad albm either.

i dont think this album is that bad at all really.
it does have some bad songs on it but i like all of a perfect circle's work.
its inspirational.
..especially the song counting bodies like sheep to the rythm of the war drums.
its deep man.
i guess its jsut a matter of opinion. you look at it as if you are comparing it to the last albums.

Jeez. I really didn't like it the first couple times over either but it's certainly not a "1" album... one day it just made sense to me though. Yeah, okay, it's a cover album but it's definitely something you can enjoy if you let yourself.
Oh, and if Counting Bodies... is supposed to be a "hard" listen, I know of a few things that just may be a trainwreck inside your ears by comparison.
Then again, I think 3 Libras is massively over-rated, but that's just me.This Message Edited On 05.21.07

Say what you like about this album, but I adore the cover of Imagine. It's so dark and evil sounding.

The main problem with this album was that it was such a disappointment. The two previous albums were so unique and just plain amazing. I was so mad to find out that this was going to be a cover cd when it was first released.
...I don't have a problem with covers, but they have to be done well and I don't think APC accomplished that sad to say. I'm a huge fan of the band and even I have to say that this cd just isn't very good..
The vocals and music itself are alright, but not enough to save the cd. I was so excited to hear the cover of "When the Levee Breaks" because that is my favorite Led Zeppelin song and I was so disappointed. The review was 100% right in saying that it basically, had the life sucked out of it.
"Imagine" is decent if I want to listen to the melody of the Beatle's song but hear Maynard's voice instead. If I had never heard the original though, "Imagine" would be a pretty great song on this album.
"Passive" is a really great song, even though it is a cover as well, I think it's on the wrong album hah. "Passive's" one of my favorite APC songs.

Passive alone gives this atleast a 2.5, for me. Then Imagine and COunting Bodies gives it a little bump. The rest is a yawnfest.

The only thing I was actually let down in connection with this album were the reviews of people such as some of those I found here, who seem to be childish enough to think the newest and coolest thing after liking something "supposedly alternative" is to flame people who do (I hope you've grown up by now), or who are ignorant enough to blindly follow another's opinion without actually listening and thinking for themselves. Of course it necessarily follows that they feel they can talk about something they know nothing about to begin with... but then again, that is what this album criticizes, in some way, so you'd better not listen to it, just stay comfortably in your ignorance and let others think for you - I wonder if that has something to do with the fact that George Bush was re-elected and the world has had to stand with him for the last 4 years...
Which brings us to the timing of the album - by the way, when would you have released it? If you can't find the irony and relate the time of the release with its content, I wonder if you should be writing reviews at all (and I feel like quoting "you f***ing disappoint me").
Finally, and most importantly, as to the album itself, I actually heard it and liked it; it has some ups and downs, but it is a good cover album and still manages to have some character, while giving a particular sound to each of the songs. Perhaps you don't realize how difficult it is to make a cover, and even more a good cover... saying something with another's words but being able to reflect upon them and translate them to your own musical language is something that can be even more challenging than making a song from scraps.
I think they actually deliver the goods and pieces like Annihilation, Imagine (who would have dared approach that classic that way? or at all?), Counting bodies, The fiddle and the drum, Passive, or Peace, love and understanding are quite well done. I even like What's going on?, which so many seem to consider to have lost in strength in this cover.
Overall, I find it deserves a positive review and definitely is worth a listen, even if you decide not to like it AFTER you've listened to some of it.

New APC is way overated I wish Mer De Noms was the only one. Those fans were actually the fans of the newer stuff were phycho and wound up, don't mean to sound like a dick but it's true.

This album is definetly a let down if you compare it to the other 2 APC releases although I do not think that this deserves a 1 rating. As others have mentioned there are a few decent tracks with 1 track (Passive) that is a clear standout and fantastic song. For this reason I would probably give it a 2 or maybe 2.5 due to just how good Passive is. I'm surprised that nobody has commented on "People are People". I absolutely love the bassline in that song and when I first heard it I had to go home and learn it.
