This is taking a while to grow on me, but it is. Not sure of a rating yet. Somewhere in the 3.5-4 range though definitely, maybe higher if it continues to grow on me as it has this past week. Some really quality tracks on here too. Nice review as well John.

Just saw Tuesday's performance of Magnificent.
Really, really good. Wonder what they'll finish with; Beautiful Day maybe?

hoping for White As Snow tonight. or Stand Up Comedy. would love to hear Moment Of Surrender before the week is out, too. my fave track from the album. wouldn't mind the title cut, either.....This Message Edited On 03.04.09

They'll have to throw in Get On Your Boots somewhere.

it was I'll "Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" last night. one of the weakest tracks on the album imo. but as if to remind us why they are one of the best live acts in rock ever, live it came across 100%. song was completely transformed. it was lively and joyous. sounded good, rocked out nicely, audience up on its feet. real good stuff............... Album is kinda meh but not too bad.

This album really highlights to me how much Bono steals from Elvis Costello structurally and dynamically. Get On Your Boots, which by the way is a terrible song, shows it quite obviously in the verses phrasings.
I've never had time for Bono, but this time around the whole band let me down with throw away ideas and lame pandering to current trends, i.e. Kings of Leon styled alt-dance-rock. U2: you're fifty years olds, stop trying to be twenty year olds and stick to what you're good at - emotive ballads. This is an album that they're never play a song off again in 12 months, mark my words.

Good review, terrible terrible album. I'm not one to throw the 1 rating around, but this really deserved it. On the entire album, I think 3 songs are particularly listenable, "Breathe", "No Line on the Horizon" and "Magnificent".
It's not like I only gave it one listen either. I actually tried to like it.
Shame, because their last two albums were very good

I'm torn if i should buy this or not. People have either been hailing this as U2's third masterpiece, or a complete mess.

NeoOrder, doesn't a 1 rating mean that NONE of the songs are "listenable"? A 1 is like 100% worthless garbage music with no value at all.
I think it's hard so suggest with songs like the ones you listed and "Moment of Surrender" that U2 put no effort into this and deserves a 1. Souljaboytellem or deserves a 1.

What's with all the critics going mad over this? Rolling Stone in the US and Q in the UK have both given this five stars and said it could be their best. I mean, it's not bad, but...
|

well Ali, you should know that the critics are usually idiots

yeah i know, Q are particually bad, but seriously.. their best album? I'm not really a u2 fan but this is far from the best they've done.

what did you expect from those magazines

I still need to listen to this properly but I don't want to so I don't know

Q gave Stadium Arcadium 5 stars. So.... lets's not take anything that magazine says seriously.

All I have is the U218 Singles cd, which I listen to almost every day. It was my foray into their music and I love it - should I get this?
|
| |
this is just about the usual U2. Tis record sadly has no big surprises. I guess that you could give this a shot too.
