Never checked these guys, but listened to a few tracks like t/t off this, Styrofoam Plates, No Joy in Mudville and a few others — holy shit, these guys are good. Especially the t/t here and Styrofoam Plates. About to immediately push back the top of my queue and immediately do a discog run of these guys. This sounds like just what I need right now. Like I discovered it at just the right time in my life.

Recently bumped this to a 5 myself. Quite possibly the best indie rock album of the 2000s. The t/t is an all-time best alone.

That’s great Larkin, those are indeed some amazing songs. You should love these guys, one of my favorite bands of all time and this is a top ten if not top five album of all time for me. The run from We Have The Facts through Narrow Stairs (including The Postal Service album) is one of the most consistent in indie.

I can see why this is largely considered their masterpiece. This is far and away their best album from what I’ve heard so far (everything leading up to this, excluding their debut, but including Postal Service and the Stability EP).
Everything has been pretty good so far, but this is the first album of theirs I’ve loved.

Fuck this is so good. T/t has legit become one of my favorite songs in just the past week.

Nice, Lark! t/t is stunning but the whole trilogy from Tiny Vessels to Passenger Seat is probably in my top three string of songs of all-time.

Nice my man. Yep this is untouchable imo.
Fun fact (if you hadn’t noticed): The album can technically be loops infinitely because the ambience that opens “The New Year” is the same that is in the background of and closes out “A Lack of Color”.

I once listened to an edited version of a song for 10 minutes where two lines kept repeating over and over because I thought it was the real thing

Not of all time for me, but yeah, that stretch is insanely good. The entire back half is amazing. First half is too, but second half is stronger imo. Very consistent album (I love everything but New Year, Sound Of Settling and Interior Decorator — though that one is growing on me).

title and registration. sound of settling. transatlanticism. we looked like giants. lack of color.
nuff said, powerhouse of an album

Such an iconic opener.

Overrated to me. I still don’t see what everybody loves in that song. Title track, Steadier Footing and Marching are all better openers imo.

The way it crashes upon opening and then keeps shifting between slow and bouncy sections gets me, plus the sweet drumming throughout. Still wouldn't call it my fav DC opener yeah, that's probably either Bend to Squares or Bixby Canyon Bridge.
Speaking of overrated if anything I'd say the whole album kinda is, in the context of the discography. I mean I can see why many people would find this album emotional/relatable/stufflikethis but musically I really don't see it as the significant magnum opus the consensus suggests.

I agree that this is does overshadow their other works a bit but it’s still pretty obviously their best for me. Every song here is basically flawless, even if it’s not the most creative thing ever every member of the band is on top form here. Every song is pretty distinct in sound/style. Most importantly it probably has the most effective emotional flow of any album I’ve ever heard, it’s just perfectly paced to completely demolish me every time. At the same time the songs are individually self contained enough to serve well as memorable standalone tracks. Flawless album really, I can’t think of a bad word to say about it.
