Every song is the best song here.

just gave this a listen for the first time in like 5 years. It really does hold up, without a doubt the best indie-pop album ever in my opinion. The production is just spectacular, and the vocals and vocal melodies are really amazing.
It's funny though, in grade 9 I would've told you with no doubt that "Transatlanticism" was the best song on here and "Passenger Seat" was lame and cliche'd but I've pretty much flipped that. Although Title and Registration I think is the best.
Also the interplay of those two guitars during "Tiny Vessels" is unbelievable.

just completely forgettable for me. i like it on the surface level but there's not a single component here that makes me come back to it

Plans has some good songs on it but it's such a "sell-out" record. For as poppy as this is nothing except maybe Settling sounds remotely radio-ready whereas most of Plans screams "play this on KROQ"

Plans is only moderately more radio-friendly than this tbh. This is slightly more complex but still very poppy and accessible. Both albums have lots of great songs (though this is definitely better)

Plans has only grown on me over the years. A few songs are kind of dull but it also contains some of their very best. This is perfect though.
These days my ranking is Trans > Photo Album > Facts > Plans > Narrow Stairs > Airplanes > Thank You For Today > Kintsugu > Codes and Keys (the last three are pretty interchangeable though and the top five are all amazing in their own ways)

that would be mine except move Facts to the top and bump codes and keys a couple spots. but yeah I never come back to the last three so any order for those is acceptable

Not to say that this isn't super poppy and accessible, but Plans is so much more radio-friendly and lacks the production and instrumental flourishes that really make this album special. Like if "Title and Registration" was on plans it would probably have like chimy guitars and stuff.

and within a week this has dropped off. Some strong stuff here but also some really plain tunes that bring it down. Middle section still remains fantastic
