That line about “where no islands should go” like omg how does he write something that poetic and perfect. It tells such a profound story.
What a shame what they’ve become too. Gold Rush sucks and it’s really annoying.

His lyrics were fantastic at this point in Death Cab's discography. I would highly recommend Give Up by The Postal Service if you're looking for more of his work that has a similar lyrical style.
I also see from your ratings that this is still the only Death Cab album you've heard. What's keeping you?? Listen to We Have The Facts, The Photo Album, and Plans! They're all SO good.

Yeah the new album is going to be hot garbage. Their run in the 2000s is one of my favorites ever though!

@Mongi Good man. I think all of their releases up to and including Plans are essential... the LPs, the EPs, even the bonus tracks from the You Can Play These Songs With Chords demo. The ones I really think you would love are We Have The Facts, The Photo Album, The Stability EP, and Plans. You should check out all of those ASAP!
@Boney I agree... these guys are one of my favourite bands of all time up until Plans. I like Narrow Stairs, but everything afterwards is just boring.

The ''I need you so much closer..'' part always affects me in the title track. This is a very nostalgic album for me. College days. It's bittersweet listening to it. I have a sick mother, unfortunately currently so when I listen to that part I actually get choked up. I live in another town from where she is.

and you are beautiful... but you don't mean a thing to me
tiny vessels has always been a lyrical highlight of mine, it strikes a particular chord with me and some past relationships. not too many songs with that theme, and none done so perfectly.
'i wanted to believe in all the words that I was speaking
as we moved together in the dark'

Flashing back to when I first played "Passenger Seat" for my mother, and the only word she said in response was "wow"
One of the GOAT fall records

Yea that song is so serenely poetic. It really describes the whole world stopping when you’re with your love perfectly.

Damn that’s one of my faves, such a perfect intro to the album and it’s themes.
So everybody put your best suit or dress on
Let’s make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
As thirty dialogues bleed into one
I wish the world was still flat like the old days
And we could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, no speed trains or freeways
There’d be no distance that could hold us back...
^ Some of my favorite lyrics ever.
