Murder Ballads is one of Cave’s very best imo and one of his most consistent track lists.

no record that contains both The Curse of Millhaven and Crow Jane is allowed to be mentioned in the same breath as consistency

Granted Crow Jane is probably the weakest on there along with Kindness of Strangers, but they’re still good, and everything else is fantastic.

Hmm, right I finally rated this era of Cave. I could barely split them, so a bunch of 4s and one 3.5 (Tender Prey) it is.
On some days this is my favourite, but Janglin Jack is admittedly a tad irritating. Henry's Dream might edge this overall. The Good Son has some stellar cuts and is generally a pretty easy-going listen front-to-back, excellent album, albeit a different vibe to this.
So let's confuse things further by adding more to the pile!

Yeah, cut ‘Jack’ and we really could’ve had an absolute barnstormer here. I at least like everything else and most of it is rather brilliant.

I only see one person complaining about JJ (albeit kinda having a conversation with himself)
It grew on me a lot after a while, it is just pure Nick Cave trolling

Jangling Jack shreds, though Thirsty Dog does kinda romp it into the ground

This whole album is fucking amazing, only tainted by how much RRH has been burnt and thrown around

^ yeah, tbf the second half is where this really shines (aside from the opener which is excellent, as per the usual with Cave)
