End of Silence was pretty damn solid, so if this is an improvement I'll probably check it out.

It's definitely an improvement (although not everyone even agrees on that point). I'm going to keep the rating in order to keep my review honest, it also makes it more likely for someone to write an opposing viewpoint if I keep it like this.

Thanks willie. I'll have to try the stream later though, because the sound mysteriously dissapeared from my P.C

I'm only about half-way in...but so far it sounds far more standard than their last album did.

I think it's definitely an improvement over end of silence. Its just I was expected more screams then there is.

Oh. I don't think I ever said there were more, I just said they were more powerful.

this bored me just as much as their debut but it's good for what it is. the last song rules too.

It's starting to grow on me a little bit. But I think if there was more screaming I'd probably like it more then I do

It took me the first week of listening to it in order for it to really start grabbing my attention. Like I said, it's not as "instant" as the first album which I think will help it in the long run. The lack of screaming should slowly become less important as you keep listening.

I think I've listened to this enough to rate it. I doubt my rating will go beyond a 3.5 but ya never know. There are definitely some songs that would be so much better with additional screaming.

yeah i think this is a definite 4. and after reading your part about the strings, i also started noticing just how well they are arranged into the songs.

shadows, mystery of you and start again are great tracks.

the album really reminds me of Breaking Benjamin. some songs are kinda like Diary of Jane.

This band is pretty generic, but I agree with your statement that what they lack in originality, they make up for with passion and emotion. This band is like a Breaking Benjamin that actually writes lyrics that mean anything.

I will say this though, some of their songs are too long for not having many unique parts. This Message Edited On 02.07.09

I really really like this album. It seems more raw than the first album (which I also liked) and they seem to really be trying to transcend the Linkin Park similarities of before. It's emotional and dark and I think RED is all the better for it.

Someone asked for a comparison and the best thing I can come up with is first album Evenescence like orchestral melodies mixed with the 'TOOL lite' emotional vocals and chomp of Chevelle. Moreso though, RED really has it's own unique style that seems more focused than their first album. I'm really psyched to see what they have for their next effort, until then I foresee a lot of play time on my IPOD.

Great review Willie. While I saw minor potential in their debut, I kind of threw these guys off to the side. I may give this a listen if you say it's a step up. But if I'm not impressed, well, you know what happens when the_wiz gets mad :O!

I get a real "12-Stones-meets-30-Seconds-To-Mars" vibe from Red (with a lot more 12 Stones in there than 30 Secs...). Their first album was surprisingly good, with memorable songs and (as Trey said) huge choruses. I'm about to stream this album now; may give opinions soon.

That's actually how I discovered this band. A web site's "similar artists" section fir 30 Seconds to Mars (whom I really like too).

I'm not really sure where I should post this so I'll just do it here.
The link is to my buddies band on myspace. They classify themselves as Techno/Metal. Check it out there decent.

I liked the Myspace songs. I'm going to download this later tonight and I'll probably review it too, if I have time.
