Is it just me, or is this Sputnik's favorite nu-metal album?

It's up there. I like it, but it's honestly over-rated. It's repetitive and I got bored of it after a few listens, save for a few great tracks.

It's not Nu-Metal.

It's got traces of nu-metal, but it's more alternative hard rock or whatever, the debut was more straight-up nu-metal. Whatever genre it is, it's good but overrated.

It's just mainstream rock with a few alternative influences here and there.

I suppose so. I just find it interesting how this is often labeled to be the best of mainstream rock when the only thing that really stands out are the strings and the vocals.

Aha!

You should read my review of this if you haven't already, it will do a decent job of explaining my views on this.

You added an extra E ;)

Yeah, I've read it, I pretty much agree. My point is that with all the flack that mainstream rock takes on the site, I don't see how Red is supposedly one of the "saviors" when they don't do much different. A solid band? Yes. But not much more.

Extra E for Emim, of course!

I think the reason they get praised is that they're at least slowly stepping out of the cliches that are dragging down the genre. Plus they're damn good at what they do, I just wish their old drummer was on this album.

They really should try a devil wears prada type song.

Must be tough being a "Christian" Metal Band. The religious folk wont like it because it is "too heavy" and the Metal fans wont like it because it is "Christian". I dig it.

A definite improvement over their debut album, and I quite enjoyed ‘End of Silence’ anyway.

They are certainly way ahead of their peers.

The instrumentals seem too generic, which I attribute to them using a studio drummer on this album.

Ha ha. I'm the one that wrote the "4" review for this, and ruined the whole site's cred… I don't think I ever personally had any, though ;)

I think any band that can get a "4" is worth mentioning even if they're not entirely original.
