"maiden at rod laver was insane. i was up the back and i still loved it. just about the rowdiest crowd i've ever seen"

dude i was up the front! i was so close i got the guitar pick from the bassist in the opening band (the guy that looked like nikki sixx), however once aces high began the place exploded and since that was my first 'mosh pit' experience i ended a lil'to the side (right in front of Janik)

AC/DC and Metallica could easily fill Telstra Dome. Green Day did (first concert ever, amazing energy in the place)

Trey, I had heard of the lollipop references (double entendre and all) with regards to 80's bands like Warrant, Poison, etc... but not specifically "penis pop". And I totally agree about your mom. Better than her trying to shove something like Celine Dion or Nana Maskouri down your throat!

Now now Billy. Careful, you don't want to go offending anyone. Plus, as a kangas supporter and because of the raw deal we get for home games from that place (as opposed to other clubs I could name), I won't officially be recognising the company paying all the money to have their name on the stadium!

Ok, that Maiden concert does sound like it rawked. Jim, any truth to the rumour that you were right up the back because you knew it was going to get rowdy? I mean, take a page out of Alligator's book; It was his first mosh-pit... At a Maiden concert no less!

well i've never cared much for general admish, because i usually get there late and end up having to peek through hundreds of heads to see the action. but even though i was so far away, the energy was still pretty intense.
when they played run to the hills, the whole place started rocking and swaying as one. it was weird/awesome

General admin is fine at the smaller venues & even Festering Hall, but it's definitely a risk at Rod Laver Arena, where I personally prefer the lower level seating. The one time I did get general admin & arrived late to Rod Laver (read: got stuck at the bar), I was very lucky since it was The Foo Fighters and they had a walkway to a mini-stage which they played 6 or so songs at. So for that duration, I actually ended up being practically front row! Plus, I'm 6-3 so hundreds of heads don't really bother me.

nup. as soon as the 'speech' finished and aces high erupted! the band was just THERE!

the feeling was just (as a cliche') Electric

haha for a first mosh pit, i DID survive. i found some not so rowdy people to stand with! i think my mate stood his ground and rocked the whole 2 hours! This Message Edited On 01.07.09

Meh, we all know it was in jest. Anyways, it will always be Telstra Dome, not 'Etihad Stadium'. Nawww poor kangas, nobody wants them.

Nothing wrong with cliches Alligator. You did well. Finding not so rowdy people near the front is a good ploy, but always remember to have your forearms (and if necessary; elbows) ready. And if some d!ck thinks he is Jackie Chan and starts throwing his legs around, just do everyone a favour and put them on the ground any which way you can.

Billy, you mean it will always be Colonial Stadium. Or maybe just Docklands. Haha.

yeah man that happened at judas priest. these 2 big drunk guys thought they could fight everyone. they accidently knocked some chick over and everyone helped her up and glared at the wankers, they stopped after that because security kept an eye on them. me and my mate stood our ground though, we were NOT gonna let people push us out of the way of our favourite band :D

It definitely gets willing at times, that's for certain. Unfortunately, it only needs 1 or 2 idiots to take it over the line (especially if security aren't doing their jobs).

You going to Big Day Out and/or Soundwave?

nup, i have actually never been to either. i wanted to go to the last few BDO's but the year i have money to go the line up isn't very good. For BDO this year, the only acts that interest me is The Living End and Arctic Monkeys, Both of whom i've seen live before.

haven't looked into soundwave, i think i heard the subways are playing, they would be good to see.

yourself? you going to BDO or Soundwave? This Message Edited On 01.07.09This Message Edited On 01.07.09

Soundwave for me this year. Like you, there are only a few acts on the BDOut bill that interest me this year. And when most of them are local, then they can easily be seen elsewhere for cheaper not long later.

Anberlin & Alkaline Trio alone on the Soundwave line-up may have been enough to make the decision, let alone the heaps of other pretty good bands at Soundwave.

That's the big gig I can't wait for Alligator. I've never seen Rise Against live. That will change at the end of March when Festival Hall goes absolutely bonkers!

Trey, it seems that us 2 aren't the only ones that like Def Leppard around here. But yeah, I'm staying away from reviewing the likes of Cynic, Circle Takes The Square & Animal Collective because I'm afraid it might send the website into meltdown. ;-)

I believe there are tickets left as the Brisbane gig is the only city that has thus far sold out.

Def Leppard's later material wore thin for me quite rapidly, but this is still excellent stuff

As usual, your review is the bomb. But why Def Leppard? Joe Elliot is a total jerkface. But then again you DID tell me you lean more towards the mainstream. This is wuss-rock bro.
