most of this isn't even pop punk tbh. but yes, it's standard pop rock/emo-pop, that's just a bit better. :]

^probs yeah, but black cat would be the best song if it was bluesier, had a heavier bass, and 10-20 bpm faster.

Sounds like a neat concept. Hmmm, normally I just listen to music and don't recreate songs in my head... but maybe thats why I am not the musically talented one creating it.

isn't emo-pop just the pop-punk of the mid-2000s that got really big

@GreenBaron kinda sorta. Idk I think emo-pop had its own distinct sound. Fall Out Boy, Panic, My Chem Romance, Mayday Parade, Boys Like Girls, We the Kings, All Time Low. I guess you could say the popular pop punk of the mid-2000s sure.

it depends on how you define "emo-pop".
emo-pop has roots in the midwest emo scene, particularly the get up kids (noticeably closer to "pop punk" than their contemporaries). but it wasn't yet codified until jimmy eat world released the hugely successful song "the middle".
emo-pop borne out of the idea of a (formerly?) emo band, JEW, releasing a pop song - the middle. and from there, it would be accurately and retroactively applied to other bands that shared a similar sound set, like saves the day.

from thereon, it was history. bands like yellowcard, fob, mcr, panic!, mayday parade, etc. would follow suite. while emo-pop and pop punk aren't exactly the same thing, i'd say their intense fusion defined an entire era of pop punk (early to late 2000s) - which is why some argue that emo-pop is a derivative of pop punk (which i don't agree with but nonetheless, i can see the argument).
there is a distinction, however. (ex: only all time low's first album and EP really have emo-pop songs, the rest is all pop punk and pop rock, same for we the kings.) emo-pop is, well, not necessarily PUNK (despite very often cohabiting).
on this album specifically, the first 3 songs are definitely pop punk (walk on water too!), whereas every song is emo-pop; the other songs having varying levels of pop punk influence.

Cyg I agree with you on all that. Thanks for reminding me of the get up kids, jew and yellowcard as being emo-pop. Regardless that era of pop punk/emo-pop was what I grew up on and it was awesome and its all super nostalgic and catchy AF
