if your two paragraphs were filled with anything remotely objective or relevant for that matter, it wouldnt be a problem, there's a lot of good short reviews here I love it when people sum up my exact thoughts.

somebody tell me why they like this album
the positive reviews here merely describe the music - they don't give any insight as to why the individual likes this album
i'm not trying to be a douche i just want an answer.

I don't like what I've heard from Children Of Bodom, but I like this review less. It started off with me thinking 'alright, this has potential but it's unfairly biased, undoubtedly' and then it finished. Sorry, I learned barely anything about this album from this review, and I'm really searching for any scrap of detail (I've been wanting to check out COB again, I didn't like them last time I heard but my tastes are a bit more open now).
Don't say that because an album is bland and lifeless you can't say anything that actually describes it's sound, as there are 2 answers to that:
1. Don't review it, soundoffs and comments work just as well.
2. I can think of plenty of things to say about JT's sound, and I hate his music and consider it bland and lifeless. You can still say WHY it's bland and lifeless, and describe the elements of it's bland and lifeless sound etc.
Not that this review is the worst I've ever seen, I at least learned a couple of things from it. From memory, I agree with you about the guitarist, but as I say I haven't listened to them in a while.

The most annoying thing about this review is that clearly you are a good writer, your Meshuggah review was great and you adopt a nice writing style in this review. The problem is you haven't tried to make any decent arguments for your rating, simply saying you don't like technicality and that the music lacks emotion really isn't enough.

I assume that everyone reading this review has heard this album. If, by chance, someone hasn't, there are, what, four or five other reviews that all describe the sound of this album. What I tried to do in this review is interpret this album and provide an alternate viewpoint. For god's sake, we all already know that Children of Bodom are extreme power metal or whatever. I don't need to waste anyone's time by describing it again.

Why didn't you just write a sound off then?

Because no one gives a shit about soundoffs.

This.
Because no one gives a **** about soundoffs
Completely false.

I did think that.

It's fine that you want to express an alternative viewpoint, but there's no real reason for you to write a review just to do so if you can't justify your opinion. Yes, we know it's extreme power metal. That doesn't mean that you have to write the same thing as everyone else, especially since you have a different viewpoint. If you want to write a fair review, and you want to express your opinion, you need to describe the sound and why you feel the way you do about this sound. I actually don't know what the album sounds like, though I can guess, but that's not very helpful for me, and when critiquing reviews, it's as a standalone review. You can't just say 'oh well the other review did that', as that's not making your review any better, because reviews need to present the sound of the album. Otherwise you aren't actually helping a potential buyer (such as myself) objectively make up their mind. This Message Edited On 12.19.08

Oh no you di int write this review...oh no you DI INT lol also: I assume that everyone reading this review has heard this album. If, by chance, someone hasn't, there are, what, four or five other reviews that all describe the sound of this album. I don't need to waste anyone's time by describing it again NEVER assume that someone has heard an album. If someone reads a review, then has to go to another review to find out what the album sounds like they wasted theyre time reading the first review they read. And to the last sentence there, we all wasted our time reading your review which should've described Children Of Bodom and how they are power metal or "whatever" because that's what a review is.
