DavID, I've quit listening to you to tell me to stay away from reviewing albums ever since you told AULDY to stay away from reviewing that You Am I album... & we're still waiting for it months later.

Lolz, I had graduating and other work to do. Now I've got my creative jewces flowing again, I'll write it.

Whatever happened to Auldy anyway?

Don't you start talking about your jewces, or else Auldy won't be the only one disappearing!

Seriously, I dunno... I'm sure he'll be back some time. He better be, since from memory, he actually requested I do this review of 'Thieves'.

thats ok, you don't have to start now.

They're jsut a hard rock band trying buy into the indie-dance thing and it's just not working because they have no idea what they actually want to play. Their energy is all misplaced and they sound so lost.

Band sounds very bad :/ Good review though Davey! Also, in response to your comment on my list about how you prefer Deja to The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me well I disagree, although I do still love Deja and am surprised I left it out the list. But there was plenty I did, it was just a top of my head thing, there were other albums I missed out unfortunately that I love. As for my favourite band I've decided on a tie between Brand New, Opeth and The Beatles.

David, all I saw on your comment was "I just popped one out... crap". Too much info for me.

Ross, I am not surprised you have never heard of them as they basically have had no success outside of Oz. If you are at all interested, listen to their debut instead, as Streetlight is pretty much spot on when it comes to this album. Both albums are easy enough to find on the net.

Ta Kane. I can see how some/most people prefer 'Devil'. I don't have any issues with that... Just a different opinion. To each their own... & I'm probably in the minority anyway.

Out of interest why is it you prefer Deja?

Kane, it is probably a combination of things and admittedly one of those may be how much of a departure 'Deja' was from 'Your Favorite Weapon' (which I suppose should not really come into play when comparing these 2 albums).

Another factor is that if I was to take my favourite 2 songs off of each album, 'Deja' wins. I absolutely love 'Tommy Gun' (maybe in my top 20 songs of all time) and 'Sic Transit' is also great.

And, as much as this will reduce my credibility (if I had any to begin with), 'Devil' may in fact get just a little too deep & (for want of a better word) depressing for my liking. That's just personal taste.

Of course, don't get me wrong, 'Devil' is still a great album. And actually, 'Your Favorite Weapon' is also very under-rated. I preferred it over it's main comparison album (Taking Back Sunday's debut) by a mile.

Same reason why he likes Craig David so much- he lives in a Chinese opium den. This Message Edited On 12.17.08

I adore both but Devil wins big time for me aha. I also think Your Favorite Weapon rules. I have Your Favorite ... at a 4, Deja 4.5 and Devil at 5 so I pretty much love them all.
I would say Devil is emotional more than depressing if that makes sense?
Also, you live in a Chinese opium den? Whoa!

I'm not going to throw around ratings without giving all 3 albums another proper listen, but I think it's safe to say that all 3 of Brand New's LPs would be rated at least a 4.

And yeah, I live in an opium den. I didn't think it was worth mentioning here as it seems that 99% of Sputnik users are already hooked up with a more than sufficient supply. ;-)

More on topic though, swell review as usual. I was feeling a bit masochistic so I checked out a song from this and was thoroughly bored to tears...

btw, my newest review is suffering from a severe lack of DaveyBoy...just sayin :thumb:
