Good review that I generally agree with. Not as good as Employment, but better than Yours Truly... Some great stuff but too much filler. My fav song is You Want History.

I haven't heard this, but based on the review this is what I have to say: You would have thought that by their third release they would be mature enough to cut out the crap, apparently not.

Mark Ronson produced

oh god, really?? Does it have loads of annoying trumpets in the background and stuff?

DaveyBoy, you're a review machine! How do you do this?
I didn't like Never Miss A Beat all that much - way too repetitive for my liking, although I guess Kaiser Chiefs have always been pretty repetitive. There's just something about it that makes me think it's a real step down for them as far as lead singles go. I haven't got the album and probably won't as a result.

I'm glad you popped in to comment Ali, since it seems that (so far) you are the only one to agree that this album is at least solid. 'You Want History' was one of 3-4 tracks that were in contention for my 3rd recommended track spot.

Ross, I cannot argue with you that there is indeed some real crap on this album. However, I think most of the good songs are better than the (for want of a better word) "good" song(s) off of 'Yours Truly...'. And no, Ronson doesn't go trumpet crazy here. If anything, he occasionally threatens to go synth crazy.

Spamue1G, daily oiling has this machine working to optimum efficiency. I think it's definitely fair to say that the Kaiser Chiefs have their repetition problems... Some would say it's an understatement! If you didn't like 'Never Miss A Beat', you probably won't think too much of the rest of the album, although there are enough other good songs to at least make the album passable. I'd definitely recommend you give 'Half The Truth' a listen if it's easy enough for you to do so.

I'm not all about the dollar dollar like you are, Champ Kind.

Also, do you work for any music websites or anything like that? I reckon you could do some excellent work on stuff like that, get you name out there as a writer.

Nah man, before here I'd only written a handful of reviews for a monthly webzine-like website that is currently experiencing some difficulties attempting to relaunch.

You know, getting back to this album, the way you carried on about it previously, I was expecting a 2 or 1.5 rating from you. As it turns out, our ratings are only 0.5 different!

It could well go down to a two. I mean, it's pretty bad.

But yeah, you should definitely get in touch with www.fasterlouder.com.au if you're keen on doing some more writing work. Cause, you know, everyone thinks you're really good and such for a reason.

Maybe I should give this a listen then, even though I dislike Mark Ronsen with a passion, I have nothing against synths so I guess I can't use that as an excuse to not listen to this.

Mark Ronson is absolutely brilliant. I'm distraught he was so lazy on this record.

DavID, I remember you mentioning something about yourself contributing to FasterLouder, but was never able to find anything. For some strange reason, I'vbe always used YourGigs for concert info, although I am aware FasterLouder has more stuff on it.

Haha... Ross doesn't like Ronson coz of all the horns & DavID doesn't like this album, probably because Ronson didn't use enough horns. Ahh, to each their own I guess. I'm neither here nor there myself, but I haven't listened to 'Version' all the way through and I guess it could get way too much with a full album's worth of horny horns!

Yeah, too much of anything can be annoying really... But especially horns as they tend to stand out.

Lol. Wrong.

The album is painfully average and Ronson, a brilliant producer in his own right, did absolutely nothing on this record. There's no distinctive mark of his whatsoever.

DavID, should producers really leave such a distinctive mark as you are insinuating...??? In a sense, if Ronson was to leave such a mark, then the album's artist should be Mark Ronson and the Kaiser Chiefs.

Don't get me wrong, I know what you mean... and agree wth you to some extent, but I think you're playing it up a little too much in this case. Producers are meant to bring out the best of a band more than anything. If Ronson is guilty of not doing something, then that is it in this case.
