Remastered version slays

Yeah, it's the usual reaction Darkside. It took me about 6 months for this to truly click. I hated tracks like "Red Soil" schizophrenic vocal section and "Inconvenient Ideal" verse, but when it clicks with you... goddamn.

This guy's voice is fucking insane. The ending to 'Vinushka' is extremely intense. It's like this guy can go from death metal Nile-esque low growls to high pitched clean singing and everything in between. He conveys a lot of emotion as well. Some of the screams are just agonizing and torturous sounding.

@Eons: Pretty much nailed it, dude is my fav singer when he's on it. Also if you're listening to this I suggest listening to the remastered version instead because the production on the orginial is not good.

Easily my favourite vocalist in general. Eons, check "Diabolos" for another intense ride.
As usual, I'm also advocating the remaster; you can find a YouTube playlist for it on The End Records' channel.

"Vinushka" is complete brilliance

The video for 'Vinushka' is unsettling. It has a lot of war imagery (about when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan) and his torturous sounding screaming and intensity + sorrowful clean singing coupled with the imagery is just all encompassing. These guys are actually saying a lot in their music. Especially on this album. In a weird way that video reminds me of the band Godspeed You! Black Emperor in how grim and intense it is.

Which albums have you checked?
Yeah for that song in particular the band always bring it in the visual imagery department, the most recent proshot performance of it so far is possibly the best one so far in terms of how it is shot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MogVVQ0hgMY

I've heard every album and this one is definitely the best as far as compelling songwriting.
|

I'd argue their two best written songs aren't on this, however I'd choose this for having their best songwriting overall. Their strengths are their execution of singular ideas and emotion more than writing intricate 'outside the box' song structures I feel, which is why I like them so much.

Any particular reason why a lot of their stuff isn't on Spotify?

Japan are pretty behind on streaming and still rely mostly on physical sales

Makes sense. Only Japanese musician I ever really listened to was Utada and she didn't get her stuff on Spotify until very recently.
This is my first time listening to this band and this is really something special.

I'm jealous, you're in for an epic ride GetLow. Check out the Remastered and Expanded version of this album for further mind-blowing results, and their last two albums.
You're in for a journey my friend, god speed.

I'm not in for anything because they barely have any of their stuff on Spotify and I ain't listening to shit on Youtube. I'll check out the remastered version of this though.

whats wrong with youtube? lol

As far as relying on it as a music player, it's pretty inconvenient. I also listen to music a lot while I'm on the run, and Youtube chews up data like no other.

Fair enough. EvoHavok might be able to provide the goods, but I haven't seen him on here for a bit.

Fair enough. Anyway, you can find playlists for the remaster of this and Dum Spiro Spero on The End Records official channel, which used to be their American distributor.
