A lot of the stuff you listen to is far from original... although I'm not entirely sure why this matters - art doesn't have to be 'original' (something almost impossible now) to be good. Although this album definitely pushes the envelope with the genre mashing, which I think is done tastefully. Seems to me like maybe you don't understand different cultures. You can rate what you want, and you can not like this album, that's cool, but your criticisms are vague as hell and have no grounding to them.

If my criticisms have no grounding to them then yours have less because you're approaching the album as though it's some transcendental thing without explaining why, while at least other people in this thread understand my points. And you have hardly skimmed through my taste let alone analyzed it to the point where you can properly judge what I do and do not listen to.

In all honesty the 5 was a joke. I still adore this album, even enough to give it a 4.5, but I was just doing it at first to counter your 1. I would say it's a very forward-thinking album that thrives on its genre juxtaposition, succeeding where others fail to blend contrasting genres together smoothly. You would dismiss it with 'it's gimmicky, pretentious and contrived', mirite?

edit: your ratings just seem really controversial, I have a difficult time thinking that you'd place this next to the most atrocious, mind-numbingly bad albums of all time.

I wold say that its genre juxtaposition comes across as theatrical because if you look at the symphonic and classical elements's quality and placement, you'll notice that they're just seemingly there. The music could do without and it wouldn't necessarily contradict the album's character. That, and the album's supposed "highs" feel muddled because they're placed too far into the tracks's lengths - that, and they don't burst with that epiphanic quality that signals a release of tension. The growls, guitar distortion and general aesthetic found on the album are just disturbing and obnoxious in the way that they stampede all over any potential that the album had, which was not very much in the first place. Technical wank and a poorly structured, random assortment of genres bound together by piano (which again, doesn't contribute that much to the album's overall character, considering that it's the one part of the album that doesn't leave an impression) in an awkward fashion.

I think the elementary point here that you're missing is that we're into two completely different types of music (oh and don't pull that Japanese cultural card with me because it'll bite you in the ass later, not esp. with metal, but consider this a get out of jail free card in case we ever bring up eai or onkyo or jap hxc)

Lol, look, let's just settle this. You hate it, I love it. I'm sorry to have insinuated that you're culturally challenged, but given context, I'm not sure how you could justify giving this a 1/5.

Those criticism don't seem to validate a 1 IMO, but I could care less at this point. It's hard to take you seriously sometimes with your controversial album ratings.

It's not a controversial rating at all, this album is fucking terrible.
