Both this record and Christina's Christmas album are both rated a one. Which means I must not "get" either.

Calm down people. You are such a stirrer Dave. Good solid review & I don't have as much of a problem as others with you rating this a 1 based on your review. The only place you may have left yourself open (as already pointed out) was using the word 'mediocrity' in the summary. You definitely attract attention one way or another, that's for certain!
BTW, I have yet to hear the album so can't really comment on it. But the lead single definitely didn't do a great deal for me. It's not terrible or anything, but was just blah. At least something like 'Thunderstruck' got your attention.

As he's entitled to his, I'm entitled to mine, and all I am saying is that I think his rating and review are beyond reason, as is this belief that this album was released like it was meant to be the newest post rock album or something, which is kind of the impression I get.

No, which is why I said impression. Look, can we please just drop this. All I am saying and I will say it again, one LAST time.
I think you make this sound much more worse then what it is. Secondly, I like the review mostly, but to me is seems rushed (not in entirety), and I get a massive vibe of ignorance, instead of just an understanding for why it is bad, and how that has had an influence on the rating, which I still think is just overly low.
Was is just that you were expecting more from them or something? I think this has quite a lot of good moments, although it's not AMAZING - so what though. It has enough to be enjoyed, and enough to be disliked, and yes it is way too long, 15 tracks should have been something like 10 or 11, considering that they're better enjoyed in small doses on this and most other albums.
