That's so weird to me Spirit, I could see someone preferring this over SS since I thing the songwriting on the whole is a bit stronger.

However Buddy's vocals on SS are a landmark performance for me. His voice has this epic timbre to it that really stuck with me and really defined what I look for in vocals. He voice still had the range and clarity of his early years, but fixes the problem from the LIEY which was that he couldn't scream properly yet.

I think it's rather obvious that alcoholism/years of poor technique diminished his voice soon after SS was recorded, even though I still enjoy his vocals and songwriting after that of course.

I think they occasionally play live still, but they haven't done anything new music wise since mid 2000s. He joined Senses Fail after they disbanded

I actually checked, and as far as I can tell, Heath isn't involved in any other bands, which makes me sad if that is the case

I just found out the Midtown vocalist started a pop/dance band called Cobra Starship for a while, which apparently is not very good

Can’t believe you didn’t know. Cobra Starship was as big as fall out boy and panic for about a month. The whole discog was epic levels of bad cringed pandering bullshit. The first album had some sleight redeeming qualities.

Nice. I've been doing the same recently and while I enjoyed the newer albums I think I've been adjusting my ratings a bit. I really think the run of SS to The Fire was something special. I used to think SS was the discography standout but nowadays I really just see it as the album that had the most commercial appeal. LINAWR is a bit more intricate and punk-oriented and has some weird song structures, and The Fire lost Heath's leads and become heavier as it gave the hardcore elements of the bands sound a more prominent role. But nowadays I kind of see them all as nearly equal in quality.

Also here is the track listing I ended up settling with for this album (it rules):

1. Life is Not A Waiting Room

2. Fireworks at Dawn

3. Lungs Like Gallows

4. Garden State

5. Family Tradition

6. Wolves at the Door

7. Hair of the Dog

8. Four Years

9. DB Cooper

10. Ali for Cody

11. Yellow Angels

12. Chandelier

13. Map the Streets

14. My Past is Proof

15. Coming Up Short

16. Blackout

I ended up booting The Martyr since it sounds nothing like the rest of the album, the vocals are clearly unfinished, and it was recorded a year later while My Past is Proof came out around the same time as this album and may have been done during its sessions.

Might have to check Cobra Starship just to see how bad it actually is

Is there a deluxe version of this? Mine stops at Blackout at track 12. I would very much like some more music from this album if it is out there

Cobra Starship had a few catchy songs but a whole album by them is pretty cringe. Vocalist should have just kept Midtown going!

Also, yeah I’ve only heard the 12 songs on this as well.. might have to do some digging

As much as I would like some more Midtown, if they wouldn't have broke up, we might have had a very different version SS and this w/out Heath so... I dunno, it's a tough trade off

Now, if Midtown would have got back together later on, I would def be up for that. I felt like they were really getting a good sound with Forget What You Know and I would love a follow up to it

Sadly there is no deluxe version. There are 3 bonus tracks that I think are available on iTunes UK. "The Past is Proof" was a song on the Punisher: War Zone soundtrack that came out within a few months of this album, so I think it may have been done during its sessions as it sounds similar.

LINAWR is on the "Family Tradition" EP on streaming services. As for the other songs, you'll have to seek them out yourself if you want them in good quality (though I think there is a good version of DB Cooper on YouTube), and even then I haven't found great versions of The Past is Proof and Coming Up Short.

I definitely consider them to be among the better songs on this album, it is quite strange that none of them were included, and it definitely wouldn't be a 5 without them.

Kinda surprised they haven't done some sort of bsides/rarities comp for as long as they have been around. That would make this so much easier

I also just found out I only have some of the bonus tracks from SS. Stupid Best Buy

Do it, super underrated album with a lot of the band's best songs on it. SS->The Fire was a god-tier run.

Dang that record smacked me right upside the head instantly. Ancient Tombs, Holy Mountain, Closure / Rebirth, the closer, soooo many good tunes. It grew on me way harder as the years went on, but it was top 3 sf for me right out the gate
