I couldn't get into it for several years either. Everything seemed terribly choatic and poorly structured for so long, but then it suddenly clicked from absolutely nowhere. I guess it isn't an album for everyone. Personally, I find the guitar work on this to be otherworldly nowadays

I got into this pretty quick, but it definitely isn't for everyone. Albums like Character or Fiction are far more instant.

Yeah I started on the newer stuff before coming to this.

I still remember how blown away I was by hearing Punish my Heaven for the first time though. I only had experience from In Flames's Clayman and everything later in their discog at that point, and expected something similar actually. How naive of me...

Punish my Heaven is a masterpiece, but Edenspring has always been my favorite

Top 2 DT songs for me. Nightfall by the Shore of Time is probably as good too though.

I also started with Fiction, Character and Damage Done before this absolutely blew my mind!! Such an intense album.

There's just nothing else out there, not even by the band, that sounds remotely like this. I think there are a few others that are equal in quality, but this is truly unique from everything

Haven't jammed for months! Can't do it for about four months either as I am away from my home city on internship. Left most of/all my music in my PC :[ Dont have a hdd.

I prefer The Jester Race to this.

The Jester Race and Whoracle are the only In Flames that sorta compete with DT

^Lol
Colony, Clayman, Subterranean and Lunar Strain (hey, it even has Stanne) can compete too. Still, I've always preferred DT over In Flames overall.

DT and in flames are pretty different tbh

When Brandstorm joined then the difference became more apparent. Up until Colony IF was the better band overall imo, but then DT started wiping the floor with them

2:25 in "..Of Melancholy Burning" is the best bassline ever

Album Rating: 5.0
the best part of that bassline is how it acts as kind of a transitional element and carries the melody until the lead comes back in
