This album is amazing its just alot of hatefull douchbags get on here to bash Dragonforce if you want to bash a terribal band go bash hollywood undead or something

This album is an absolute chore to listen to. Like a really long test on video game knowledge.

turned it off after 1-2 minutes, got no prob with fast paced music but this is just a mess

I am sorry John, but I find it hard to believe this is a professional review. I’m going to have to pick apart your argument for the sake of anyone who is going to miss out on this great album because they believe you.

You:

My response:

Are you sure you listened to the album three times? I can recall that the song ‘last journey home’ sounds almost completely different from heroes of our time. The members of dragonforce actually said they put an effort into making the album sound different from their previous work as said in one of their interviews. I personally think they aren’t doing anything wrong because A LOT of modern music sounds the same.

Take rap for example, to me it all sounds the same, talking with a simple and repeated beat in the background. Want something closer to metal though? Take the hard rock band AC/DC and a lot of their songs such as thunderstruck and highway to hell. Most of them are pretty generic using the same chords and tone. Overall it sounds the same when you get down to it. But how are bands like AC/DC and DragonForce popular though? Its because they are catchy. In the end your statement is really just an old rumor, and not really worthy of putting in a ‘professional’ review.

You:

Out of the 55+ minutes of ‘new’ music presented on Ultra Beatdown, there are really only two things that I can say surprised/impressed me. The call of “starchaaaaaaaaaser” in “Heroes of Our Time” was actually amazingly cheesy but still well placed for once, and “Reasons to Live” is a surprisingly well written song. That’s it.

My response:

You did explain that the call of starchaser was well placed. But care to explain why reasons to live is well written? I thought it was pretty good but unlike you I will actually back up my argument. First off the intro is not even power metal but black metal, I think this was a reference to their first band demoniac. I personally could not stand black metal though, so every single time I listen to this song I have to skip the intro. But beside that the song is great because its gives a really inspiring vibe with the lyrics and instruments unlike most other metal I hear, I still wonder to this day why people like to listen to depressing music because I feel its torture.

My response:
Welcome to the 21st century John, almost ALL music has massive production placed on it, it just makes it more appealing to the ears to have a good voice improved. If you want raw “musical creativity’’ try 90’s Norwegian black metal where the budget was probably about 5$ a song.

Sorry, is there a problem with power metal? I don’t really quite get this statement…

The guitarists play the same leads and solos at blazing fast speeds all day, every day, and they don’t give a FUCK if you don’t like it,

I would not care if you didn’t like my style of playing either, it’s what they like to do. If you got a problem with it, listen to another band and stop whining. Also, should a professional reviewer use ‘fuck’ or any swear word in a review? It really proves how low class you are.

because they’re going to slow it down and still mess it up live anyways.

My response:

You must have only seen the graspop 2006 live concert because that pretty much was their only bad one. If you actually go to one of their concerts in real life and actually did more research on the concert you would find out that the technician at the time was a really bad one. I’m sure he’s fired by now though.

You:

The lyrics are like if you made a soundtrack to an RPG based on Arthurian Legends then added a bunch of awful sci-fi fantasy crap to it. AKA hello soundtrack to Final Fantasy X.

My response:

Again, anything wrong with it? Stop whining.

You aren’t going to care what the drums or the bass (it exists?) sounds like, because I mean lets be honest: no one else really cares.

My response:

The highlight of the band is the fast paced guitars and epic tone. Without the drums or bass to back it up what do we get? Just a guitar and a singer, I say without drums or bass I would probably not get the same rush as I do with every time I listen to dragonforce. Also, do you really know if no one really cares? That’s quite a statement you got there.

You:

The keyboard player does his best to make this sound as the kids say “Super Nintendo” like. Funny thing, I never played a Super Nintendo game that sounded like a hyperblast of “dee dee doops”.

My response:

Those ‘kids’ are talking about his keyboard tone, not exactly how fast he plays it. although I’m sure there are plenty of super Nintendo games out there that sound like you explained though because unless you have a list of games you’ve played all your life I could say you’ve never played a super Nintendo game at all.

I wont review your last paragraph because it pretty much sums up your previous statements. But now that I’ve pretty much proved your review worthless is there really a point? I’m just shocked that you got over 26,000 views with the little supporting arguments you have.

Also I apologize if there is another way I could have posted this arugment. I found this review via another site and decided to make an account on here just to post this, but because of the unprofessionalism of this site's staff I sure as heck will not use this site as a reliable source again.

I guess it depends on the festivals, how recent are they? Herman Li said that the entire Inhuman Rampage tour was a disaster due to the tech difficulties. But I have seen them live in New York with thier new singer and they did a pretty good job. Just my oppinion though.

Honestly I just wanted to put in my 2 cents, I dont mean to start a big fight. If you dont like the album its fine I wont force down your throat. I'm just saying that if your going to review an album, you need to have more supporting arguments.

Anyway I'm sorry if I came off as rude in my responses, I have encountered my share of Dragonforce haters and I guess I got really sick of it, so I got a little pissed. I do hope you realize though that as a staff member you need to try to not be bias in your reviews.

But I'm going to just stop caring about what people think of dragonforce and listen to what my ears enjoy. Feel free to delete my comments and account (I figure you can do that since you are a staff memeber) I dont need them anymore.
