Its not really awful, its just awfully mediocre and bland. Its like eating an entire box of saltines...

So my friend told me these guys are like Avenged Sevenfold and I was like let me listen to them. I heard this album and I have mixed feelings, yes they are trying to replicate the heroes of metal but most of it is boring. Some good bit here and there, some nice shredding at times too, but it just falls short. First of all, a record should be around 1 hour instead of 40 minutes, how do you think Avenged Sevenfold got so far? Second of all. ditch the singer, he is horrible to listen to. Third of all, they need to get their act right because this band do have the talent to become a force to be reckoned with in the metal community.

your first mistake...

I say that because if your friend meant it sounded like their older stuff (which is decent like WTF or STST) then you are friends with a very "special" person.

Perhaps it is the very well written album-crunching review, or the 8 pages of "this is terrible" comments but something tells me I shouldn't listen to this.

At the same time, I refuse to rate an album unless I've given it at least one full, thorough listen and it would be nice to have another 1-2 rating to bump up my objectivity score hehe.

i actually liked this album. i put on the headphones with an open mind and i was expecting to hear something completely different than nocturne. but THIS different? it seems like more and more bands are following the "thrice" trend and are turning into a completely different band after becoming successful. i guess this is what happens when a "mathcore" band follows the trend, haha. for all of you who forked up your hard earned money on it and are ****'d off have to realize that they did stream the whole CD on thier myspace so fans knew what they were getting into

ummm, they werent mathcore really, im pretty sure they were metalcore with a bunch of arpeggios and bad vocals, and did they actually have the whole cd on myspace? i thought it was only 2 tracks or so before the actual release.

im pretty sure they streamed the whole thing a couple days prior to or right when they released it. but i might be wrong, lol. i guess its wrong to catagorize bands, also. although they did have some mathy elements on nocturne

I couldn't agree with the author more. I really thought this was going to be good. This is an abridged version of what i had to say about it in my Myspace blog under the same name as here:

Their first album was phenomenal. The first time i listened to it i was in awe. It was very technical, heavy, original, and diverse (its not all metalcore sounding). I love the album, but not the band.

The Human Abstract's second album, titled MidHeaven, is nothing more than poodoo in a CD case with some nice art work. This album just came out, and i pre ordered it through Amazon. If i am willing to preorder something, it means i cannot wait for it a second longer and i expect it to be good. This happens rarely with me when it comes to music, and i am seldom wrong.

I am so furious with the contents of this new album i am ranting about it now. It is such crap. there really is not one good song on it, while their first album didn't have one bad song on it. What The Human Abstract should have done is titled the album Chinese Democracy, said it was going to be released yesterday, and then said it is going to be delayed for a few more months, and repeat. At least people would have still gone to their concerts. There's no hope for that now.

In conclusion, if you have ever heard me say positive things about this band, erase that all from your mind, I take them all back. I'll still listen to thier first CD, but it will be under protest, since that greatness was obviously a fluke. I hate it when i waste 14 dollars, emotions of excitemental anticipation, and 40 mins i could have been listening to something good. I'd rather listen to Hey Mickey your so fine you blow my mind...hey Mickey....hey Mickey! for 40 mins straight than to listen to MidHeaven again.

At the same time I haven't heard the whole album, but the few songs that I did hear actually angered me. Not really. But they did fuckin blow. No I could never write music like those dudes, but seriously. Come on.
