It's a good album.
I plan on taking it down to a 4, but havent gotten around to it yet.
But at least the band that I chose has the slightest shred of originality in the deathcore world, whereas this band, does not.

Geez, it's just squealing get over yourselves. It's not like it ruins the album.
Well see, here's the thing- it does. It literally sounds like dog shit. I'll admit these guys sounded pretty heavy at first listen, but then you realize it's just generic/boring chug shit with awful vocals.

Dethcore is decidedly not my thing, although I gotta confess that I enjoy some parts of some of their songs. Bree bree and breakdowns are an instant turn-off for me, though. "A Fractured Hand" is pretty nice, though. I dunno... I feel like listening to the album as a whole, but it's a bad temptation and I know it.

To be completely honest, this band's vocals are completely over the top and hard for some people to get into (I used to hate these guys in high school), but the guitarists write some of the coolest riffs in deathcore, and Alex is one hell of a drummer. That's how I've always felt anyway, and over time I've learned to appreciate their vocals... the amount of breeing Steve throws in some times is just hilarious, but otherwise that dude's vocals are KING, Alex on the other hand... well his voice is distinct...
Furtive Monologue is the song that made me realize how much these guys rule. Miss this band in all honesty.

Well Despised Icon kind of pioneered the genre, and has one of the most distinct sounds within it, so I don't really feel it's too safe to call them generic, or to claim that they have no individuality whatsoever... as for pig squeals non stop, that's just during breakdowns lololol.
The hilarious part is that you call Despised Icon generic, but rated Whitechapel at 5's and 4's.
I like Whitechapel and all, but Somatic Defilement is really just a brutal take on Through The Eyes Of The Dead and the two albums following are even less original... so I hope you catch my drift.
