Sounds cheesy but this band will forever be special to me because they were the first band I was ever REALLY into and directed me to a lot of the bands I love now. and they were my first concert too

Thanks Chewie. I wrote this review a while back, so that's appreciated.
I actually wonder how much Dylan is correct & if most of the flak MCR cop is because of the majority of their fans.
If their new album is punkier as has been rumored, it will be interesting to see if some of those drop off.

"If their new album is punkier as has been rumored, it will be interesting to see if some of those drop off."
Unfortunately I doubt it. Remember most of their fans already think the band is hardcore punk anyway, so when they do get a real punk vibe the fans will be blown away and love them more.
Thats just a personal opinion though.

Yeah I think that they get most of their flak as a result of their fans. All the "mainstream" people like them, and then all the people who think that this is true emo music and stuff really like them too. In other words, most of the huge fans of MCR are douchebags.
This album was ok though, there were a lot of "meh" songs on it. I wasn't a huge fan of Cancer or Mama ( or Disenchanted for that matter) they both seemed like a melodramatic trash heap to me. House of Wolves was kinda fun though as were a few other songs.

I probably listened to this record every day in 2006. I loved it. Some of the initial appeal has definitely worn off for me, though. If I'm going to listen to MCR on the way to school, I'm going to listen to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge or even I Brought You My Love, You Brought Me Your Bullets before The Black Parade.
Although, I did listen to this today and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yeah, I'm with you Dylan. I think you may be very spot on with your thoughts.
Sounds like you guys may have overplayed the album initially. Fair enough too & I can sort of say I did the same thing for a while at one stage.

Finally got around to checking this out, and was pretty impressed. I ahvent heard any of their other stuff yet but judging by this album the stick they get is certainly harsh.

Great record but 'Mama' makes me want to commit suicide...

Every time I hear "Mama" it just reminds me of "Alabama Song" by The Doors. But I think that was the
point

Gee, that took a while Ali. And yeah, the crap they take is for a minority of their fans more than anything else.
Dylan, I've never made that connection with Alabama Song tbh... But I think it is a valid one. Again though, while there are clearly parts of this album that are derivative, I think MCR are on the right side of infusing more than enough of their own sound.

I actually was pretty young when this came out and I remember I liked every single. Now I'm re-
listening to this and I'm pretty much addicted. But not to the singles. Favorites here: End, Dead,
Sharpest Lives, House Of Wolves, Cancer & Disenchanted. This album is just amazing as not only there's
not a bad song, but also almost every song could easily apply for single.
