Like you said though, they exposed black metal to the mainstream and a lot of people didn't like that (obviously). Fuck it though.

Speaking of Cradle, I just read that their old bassist/guitarist Charles Hedger is playing with Mayhem now. Don't know if that's old news or what, but it's pretty cool. Also just read that a new Mayhem album is supposed to be in the works for next year. Hopefully that's true.

Stereotypical BM and big scene acts, yes. Look at local scenes, nobody wears corpse paint. Some acts might incorporate armor or show-pieces like that but that's also rare. (I've rarely ever seen a local BM band here doing any of this btw)

Ouch, no - not really. The hate comes from them overusing orchestration, mostly being pretty bad live and generally "being overproduced" - whether the latter is the case is arguable. Also, because they're basically and I quote "Black Metal's pop equivalents". As for CoF, a lot of people dislike the vocals and from what I gathered his vocals are awful live.


Also, who the fuck still cares about Gorgoroth? The band was always mediocre to average at best. And Behemoth hasn't done anything Black Metal since Sventevith, Idk about the U.S. but Behemoth also definitely count as mainstream metal over here.
