I don't see why people think its a 4.5, it lacks that certain punch to give it such a rating. I cannot justify giving something above a 4 when it nearly makes me turn off the music during some songs. I do absolutely love the atmosphere of this album though.
I don't understand why you dislike the first lyrics to The 'Lotus Eater'?
It's just something that comes out very, very awkwardly after his little humming session at the beginning of the song. It made me laugh when I heard it, actually. This Message Edited On 06.04.08

I just love nearly everything about the album, just my opinion. There isn't a time when I want to turn it down.
But hey, opinions are opinions.

Album is perfect to these ears. I can't ever remember sitting down in one day and listening to an album this many times.
And to all the people who think the detuned guitar at the end of 'Burden' is awful, I kind of like how it 'unwinds' the song into the next one. Music to me is not always about perfection.

I think a 4.5 for this album suffices for me aat the moment.
they have a drum beat they do a lot too. i don't have watershed yet so i have to use a different album as an example, but one of the times they do it in the baying of the hounds between about 3:15 and 5:15.
I think you mean a 6/8 clave. Martin Lopez used that one quite often (but with altered kick drum-ride bell syncopation and his own jazzy flavor of course). One of my favorite moments where it is used is in the song Master's Apprentices; that ending is just too good. Oh and it's not featured on Watershed btw.

Doesn't he use that technique pretty much throughout most of Deliverance as well?

Hmmm... I think it's actually only 'Master's Apprentices' that features that particular rhythm pattern on Deliverance.
About 90% of Opeth's songs are in 6/8 or bluesy upbeat in triplet feel so it pops up every now and then. Other examples that come to mind is after the first clean ending section in 'When', before the killer riff in 'Demon of the Fall', the build-ups in 'The Leper Affinity' and in the solo section of 'The Funeral Portrait'.

You must be a drumming machine DirtyS4nch3z! I pick apart the drums but not to that extent hahahaha.
Album is definitely a 5 now. I think I've listened to this enough to justify a 5 at this point in time. Then again, I don't give a shit what people's criteria for a 5 is anyways.

The Lotus Eater might be my favorite Opeth song now. I cant stop listening to it. Hell I cant stop listening to the whole album.

Coil is much better than I expected. They make a 3 minute song sound so damn epic.

Hahaha yeah I'm a nerd when it comes to analyzing stuff I dig. I play drums, so yeah...
Wow, a 5? You must really love this!

Also has anyone noticed that transition in Hessian Peel over halfway; almost sounds like it jumps right into a part of Beneath the Mire from Ghost Reveries. Almost :D

^^^I actually like when bands seem to carry over similar sounds/patterns from one album to the next. There's a riff in Tool's Rosetta Stoned that sounds almost exactly like a riff they did in Third Eye. Almost, but not quite; I like the pleasant nostalgia it creates

I woke up at 5 am this morning just so I could listen to this again. Obsessed much?

Listen to 'Porcelain Heart' and tell me the main riff doesn't sound like the main riff in 'The Grand Conjuration'.
