I don't know wich one I liked better, this one or the In Mourning album.. hard choice,
Sorry but In Mourning sound exactly like Opeth in parts, making Opeth far more original and therefore better.
Way to react to the troll, guys.
Your review has attracted two trolls now hahaha! At least the second troll gave some reasoning with his opinion, not very good reasoning I might add.

1. The lead singer’s scream or “deep growl” is borderline comical, it is impossible to take his “singing” seriously. On top of this, there is absolutely nothing unique about his singing voice.
2. The harmony breaks in Opeth’s songs are extremely bland, un-catchy, and forced.
3. The instrumentals are lazy, random, and technically un-impressive.
4. No one has ever gotten laid listening to Opeth.
5. Any Metal band that uses keyboards should stick to video game soundtracks.
6. Everyone who has ever told me I should try listening to Opeth has been a huge douchebag.
7. Lastly, listening to Opeth is down right boring, there is nothing surprising about any of their songs or albums. This band is way too ordinary to receive the amount of attention they are given on this web site.
8. Sputnik music is run, and censored by Opeth fan boys.
List needs more Opeth.

just something I noticed, I'm sure other people have noticed this as well... but at around 2:05 into "Hessian Peel" there is some backwards lyrics, I reversed em and Mikael is saying
"out on the courtyard
coming back tonight
sweet satan
i see you"
Has anyone else picked this up?

^^^It does go on a bit too long, but I don't think it's that serious one way or the other. Anyway, it's at the end of the track, so one could just wait till it gets there and skip ahead w/o too much trouble.

ok, on Itunes go to Options on the song, and you can end it where you want(aswell as start when you want) and it will still count. I do it for bands who have that stupid retarded blank nothing on the last song, just to make it look longer, or to have some random shout at the end.

will probably give this a few more listens before voting. it's somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4 atm. i like how it tips it's hat towards 70's prog more than their previous stuff

It seems like this album is their most simplistic to date. I'm not saying that it doesn't take extreme technical talent and amazing songwriting skills to create music like this, but it seems they toned down on the complexity of some of these songs. Especially Porcelain Heart which is easily the most simplistic Opeth song ever written. Despite that, it's still an excellent album.

Its not simplistic at all, in fact its the contrary, complex guitar riffs & time signature c/w nice melodies...awesome album

I really dislike how the keys are coming for to the forefront. It just feels, really unauthentic and trendy.
Overrall though, I'm not going to give my opinion on this record until I've listened to it for another month or so.

nothing about the keyboards on this album are trendy. how many metal bands have polka breakdowns?
