During the A Beautiful Lie era Jared couldn't have dressed any more emo if he tried.

Idk when stuff like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and this started being called emo instead of American Football and Brand New but I don't like it.

Jared Leto was basically cosplaying Pete Wentz from like 2005-2007 tho

If only people knew what hardcore and post-hardcore sounded like until recently, they would slap themselves for inventing that equation.

As far as the emo conversation goes, there are no similarities between Pete Wentz and Jared Leto. Say what you will about their appearances, but considering that Hot Topic was the only place that sold emo clothing, you don't have a lot of options to choose from. Fall Out Boy more or less used the pop-punk spectrum of emo which allowed for an easy transition in style once 2008 hit. 30 Seconds to Mars began their transition into alternative during "A Beautiful Lie." Jimmy Eat World remained close to their original sound, but played with pop rock during their future releases. Though, "Integrity Blues" certainly brings back their emo sound. My Chemical Romance notoriously drifted away upon "The Black Parade," so there isn't a lot of explanation needed.

I agree, there were some decent songs on this album. I just wasn't a huge fan. I like their earlier sound better, but this was an important album during the early 2000's.

I used the term "played" loosely. There are a few songs on each of those albums that could pass as pop rock. I'm not discounting tracks like "Pain" that were popular emo tracks, but I'm condensing the period between the rise and fall in popularity of emo.

The issue with 30 Seconds to Mars is that Jared Leto is following trends instead of starting them. They had an original concept upon their debut, but for some reason, felt the need to jump onto trends. Now they are going with this super clean indie sound and trying to capitalize on the popularity of Jared Leto. Jared Leto was never a bad lyricist, but he tones his subjects down to appeal to a lighter audience. After all, it's not like he can sing "Buddha for Mary" or "Fallen" in a pop concert anyways. I find it hard to enjoy his music because of how lazy they are produced. If he wants to play with the big boys Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors, go right ahead.
