I was jamming a few tracks off this today.

I don't understand. The more I explore this band, the more this looks like their best album by a significant margin (Gothic is shaping up to be my solid 2nd place). To the point where I feel like I'm inside some kind of Truman Show where everybody is pretending otherwise to witness my descent into madness. I mean I get that this album isn't for everybody's taste but I'm surprised that there aren't at least some 5.0 fanatics to be seen because this looks like perfect cult material.
The vocal delivery is monstrous (like when he says "and I'm waiting for the dawn" near the beginning of Crying for Eternity), and let's talk a bit about the riffs and godly tone. The songwriting is relatively adventurous, especially compared to their own discography, and most songs go to different places throughout their playing time. It also has their most dynamic production, every instrument contributes something (big or small) to the music.
What can I say I'm really baffled by this album's reception ahahah

I'll have to revisit it then

Holmes' vocals are crushing on this one, with a very human feel that makes them heavy and pained. There are so many memorable deliveries, like 0:30 into Crying for Eternity, 1:50 into Pity the Sadness or the entirety of Mortals Watch the Day.
Also the riffs man sooo maany riiiifffsssss

Yup, this needs a bit more affection.

This is like proto-Opeth, especially with Crying for Eternity and Daylight Torn.

Indeed, the elaborate structures led to cool results in some instances. The upcoming album will have their longest track ever, too.

I noticed that about Medusa too, just this morning, and am getting excited for it. I'm hoping that The Longest Winter is the weakest track on the album, though it wasn't bad at all.

Not unlikely, since "No Hope in Sight" wasn't the strongest on Plague either.

Yeah even though I like that one a lot, they usually save their most impressive songs.

This one is decent. Easily my least fav Paradise Lost that I’ve heard so far though.

I have to hear this one again. Heard it a while ago and genuinely can't remember what I thought of it, if anything.

I mean it’s not bad but kinda just goes through the motions. The 2 before this and especially the 2 after this are way way better imo.

I do remember this being a transitionary release for them but to the extent where that creates flaws is something I'm going to have to hear for myself.

I think this is soooo much better than Lost Paradise. But yeah, not as good as Gothic, Icon and Draconian Times by a looong shot

Lost Paradise is really great tbh. Gets way too much hate and the average for it here is absolute trash.
