This is really damn cool. Digging the combo of trip-hop/IDM with bountiful helpings of orchestral goodness. It pretty.

yes, this is an amazing album, with great moments. It was recommended to me when I was looking for albums similar to Ulver's Perdition City. Not quite what I was looking for, but still damn cool

I do love Perdition City.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble probably fit the bill. I wonder what was amongst the recs, (you probably won’t remember now).

I just found this just by trawling through trip-hop tagged stuff on RYM (sorry Sput).

One of the recs was this one, and the other was The Future Sound of London's ''Dead Cities'', which was spot on what I was looking for

I don't remember what the others were, but *I* would also suggest

1. Vangelis's ''The City'' and ''Bladerunner'' (moody, electronic music with tones of atmosphere and some jazzy passages)

2. Moby's ''Devastated'' (typical Moby, but with amped depression and claustrophobia)

3. Bohren Und der Club of Gore (noir jazz, nothing electronic, but resembles Killimanjaro DJE)

4. Proem - ''Socially Inept'' (cool IDM)

5. VFSix - Paradise, LETDOWNS (super obscure Russian band. Have found only individual songs on Youtube, which are very close to Protishead)

Future Sound of London are very good aye.

Woah never even heard of 4 or 5, will have to peek. Thanks.

Edit: yeah looks like I should check Proem, think I recognise some of the artwork but not sure I’ve checked.

yes, Proem was a big deal when it came out a few years ago

Edit: obvisouly this came out in 2004 so I must be confusing it with something else
