I was talking with my friend about the origins of metal and rock. Do you guys think rock comes more from jazz and metal from blues?

rock came from a whole bunch of american forms (city/country blues, jazz, boogie woogie, country, folk, gospel), and metal came from rock.

i think jazz really developed out of show tunes and blues while rock came mostly from blues and american folk music. what we think of as "art" jazz now really developed side-by-side with r&b and rock. i mean early swing definitely gave jazz it's beginnings, but it's hardly comparable to what happened when bebop developed. before bebop jazz was really just pop music.
