I love this album, one of the ones which got me into black metal... just plain great. Good review.

I ordered this off of Amazon a few days ago. I'm anxious to look into it. I heard a few songs from other Darkthrone albums and they owned hard and everyone says this is their best one so...

Great album. Currently on high repetition for me, in the thick of a black metal phase.

^^^^Me too hahahaha. I don't really know what to think of this still (after 20 plus listens at least). Its ok but it just doesn't stand up to alot of other black metal albums. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk will always be my favourite black metal album. This Message Edited On 05.07.08

I've only heard "In the shadow of the horns" and its great production is a bit shitty though

I've never thought Anthems to the Welkin was all that black metal. It's got some black metal songs like Thus Spake the Nightspirit, but it's pretty technical in a lot of spots.

I think Anthems is Black Metal. The albums after that have more of a Progressive Metal sound.

The epitome of symphonic black metal if you want to be an elitist asshole about it hahaha.

I wasn't trying to be elitist, but the words technical and black metal generally don't go together. It would be like labeling something technical hardcore punk.

instrumental technicality is irrelevant to genre

^ That's not true tbh

And to wizard: I realize you weren't being serious, but I still wanted to justify my comment.

I think Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk is Black Metal no matter how technical.
