Ribbons And Sugar is better but only by a smidge. The songwriting in general on this album is stellar and the hooks are the best they ever did

The references too great books are in every song in the album. It's awesome. I mean, Ender's Game, Lord of the Flies, and of course, The Great Gatsby being referenced on one album? I came.

I love the chord progressions, I don't even care if they're recycled. The album is just fundamentally good.

I might be just a bit biased... But it's worth it, cause this album deserves the credit I'm giving it.

This album is great for sure. These guys are actually how I found another band I like - Forgive Durden. They were listed as similar on some site. While they aren't too similar, chances are you will like FD if you like Gatsby's.

Good review. A bit of insight into GADs songwriting, Bobby Darling writes 90% of the songs. He comes to the rest of the band with most of the lyrics and the basic melody written for the guitar then everyone else does their respective thing. Nic finishes the vocal melodies, Kirk comes up with the bass stuff, and Rudy brings the heat via his amazing talent on the drums (sidenote: Rudy's brother is part of another amazing Seattle band The Blood Brothers). Kirk has written the occasional song for the band. I believe he wrote one of my favorite songs on Volcano, A Mind of Metal.and Wheels. And for all the naysayers that thought this album wasn't good. My sweeping general opinion is that you are all morons. This band could run circles around 99% of the other "artists" out there talent and skill wise. Great review for an album that I have listened to so many times that I can sing the whole thing from start to finish in my head while in class. And another thought for the numbskulls who don't like Gatsbys American Dream, it's a shame you'll never get to see them live. Out of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of bands of seen play GAD is by far one of the top 3, along with The Blood Brothers and Circa Survive. Sorry about the rant, I just love this band so damn much.
